Magdalene Moonsamy

Magdalene Moonsamy is the ANC Youth League (ANCYL) spokesperson, appointed in February 2009. She has been hired to counter negative publicity around ANCYL President Julius Malema controversial comments.

Education

She studied law at the then University of Durban-Westville.

Background in Politics

Moonsamy has been ACTIVE in youth politics since high school. She joined the ANCYL in 1998, and is serving her second term on its national executive committee.

Views Of The Media

She believes the media prejudices the youth league and Malema by focusing on scandal instead of its successes.

Opinions

Her view on Malema's comment that the woman who accused Jacob Zuma of [...] had a "nice time" with him, she said:

"As a woman I'd like to say there is no court in this country that has found Jacob Zuma guilty of any offence ... That automatically disqualifies the issue of [...].

Of Malema's comments that he will not debate with the youth league of opposition party, the DA, since "they are (DA leader) Helen Zille's garden boys", she said:

That statement is not derogatory... Malema was speaking in the broader context of imperialism and colonialism ... There's nothing derogatory in speaking the truth AbOUT the DA's policies."
