Magatsuhi

is a fictional character in the popular anime and manga series InuYasha created by Rumiko Takahashi.

Overview

Magatsuhi is first mentioned in Chapter 94 of the manga as the evil and corrupt spirit opposed to the good spirit, "Nachi", within the Shikon no Tama. He is first introduced as a character in Chapter 513 of the manga. Magatsuhi was not created by Naraku as he later says ' Don't compare me to that Hanyou (Naraku)'. He was born from the Shikon no Tama and states that he is actually merely borrowing a body from Naraku, and this is proven true by the fact that whilst Naraku cannot touch Kohaku's shard, Magatsuhi is not only able to touch it but also corrupt it. Sesshomaru also notes that Magatsuhi's true form doesn't have Naraku's scent but smells more like an Evil Spirit.

Magatsuhi's intent is to retrieve Kohaku's shikon shard. In doing so, he battles Sesshomaru and drains Kagome's energy, leaving her completely unconscious. Even after being decapitated by Sesshomaru, he appears to lose no control over his body and emits shouki from his wounds.

During his battle with Sesshomaru he manages to severely damage Sesshomaru's right arm and comes near to tearing it off when Inuyasha appears and saves his older sibling. Sesshomaru is indignant when Inuyasha attempts to help in the fight, even though Sesshomaru has no successful method to attack with, as he believes [...] Magatsuhi himself is a matter of his pride. During the course of the fight however Sesshomaru learns that tenseiga is capable of purifying Magatsuhi's spirit, which prompts Magatsuhi to quickly impale him with his tentacles before he is able to attack again. Magatsuhi then absorbs Sesshomaru into his body, to the horror of his followers Rin and Jaken.

Sesshomaru manages to survive the attack and escapes Magatsuhi's body with a strange burst of bright light. He emerges not only having regenerated his left arm which had been severed by Inuyasha, but finds it holding The New sword Bakusaiga. Using this weapon Sesshomaru quickly destroys Magatsuhi's body in it's entirety, though as he is destroyed Magatsuhi claims that his spirit will survive the encounter.

Later in manga chapter 521, Matatsuhi possesses and takes control of Kohaku's unconscious body, intending to use it to deliver the shard in Kohaku's neck to Naraku. Miroku tries to save Kohaku by using the Wind Tunnel to suck in Magatsuhi, however he is badly poisoned upon absorbing Magatsuhi's spirit and is forced to stop. As he escapes Magatsuhi uses Kohaku's kusarigama to strike Sango, and poisons Rin when she tries to intervene. He is finally purified by Sesshomaru's Tenseiga while attempting to deliver the shard to Naraku, although the remnants of his spirit which were absorbed into Miroku's body survive and emerge to possess Rin. He travels in her body to Naraku's side, where he then lies in wait for the final battle.

Appearance

Magatsuhi seems to resemble Sesshomaru when transforming into his true form. His hair looks very similar to Juromaru's, only somewhat messy. He wears a strange suit of armour as well.

Abilities

• He can stare at someone and instantly drain them but he only used this ability on Kagome possibly because he is responsible for sealing Kagome's power.
• He can regenerate and survive even the deadliest of attacks.
• In his borrowed body, Magatsuhi can separate pieces of his body at will. There appears to be no limit as to how much of his body can be broken apart.
