Lung Pha

Lung Pha Chao Kao (, ), often referred to simply as Lung Pha is a long-established street food restaurant in Bangkok, Thailand, known for its traditional pad thai served in the historic Pratu Phi neighbourhood.

The restaurant is located near Thipsamai and is known among local diners for serving a similar style of traditional pad thai associated with the Pratu Phi area.

History

The restaurant has been in operation since 1975, originally serving pad thai at 8 baht per plate. It was founded by Prapha Soisamrong, commonly known as "Lung Pha" (Uncle Pha). The business began as a street food cart operating around the Pratu Phi area before gradually expanding into a single shophouse during Lung Pha's era. Today, the restaurant is operated by the third generation owner, Naphon "Nick" Jongsang. Lung Pha prepares pad thai using traditional methods over high-heat charcoal stoves at the front of the shop. Signature dishes include Pad Thai Sen Chan with shrimp oil, egg-wrapped Pad Thai with giant river prawns, and Pad Thai with giant river prawns. The restaurant is regarded as the first in Bangkok to serve pad thai with giant river prawns.

Opening hours

At present, Lung Pha is open daily, alternating Mondays off, from 11:00 a.m. to 11:30 p.m. In addition to pad thai, the restaurant also serves pork satay and fresh coconut juice served in aromatic young coconuts. The shop is located near the larger and more internationally known Thipsamai restaurant on the same road, separated only by a khanom bueang shop.
