Los Angeles Family Law Help Center
The Los Angeles Family Law Help Center (LAFLHC) is a non-profit legal aid center that was established by Loyola of Los Angeles Law School students to satisfy the growing demand for legal assistance in Los Angeles. The LAFLHC primarily provides legal assistance to in pro persona litigants (individuals who are representing themselves in their own legal matters) in the area of family law.
The goal of the LAFLHC is to provide cost-effective legal assistance to the community. The LAFLHC provides legal services in the following areas: Paternity, Civil and Domestic Violence Restraining Orders, Custody/Visitation, Divorce/Legal Separation/Annulment, Unlawful Detainer actions, and Notary Services. The LAFLHC's volunteers assist litigants in properly properly complete and promptly file all relevant court documents. The LAFLHC does not, however, provide legal representation or legal advice.
The LAFHLC's services are primarily provided by students of Loyola of Los Angeles Law school performing pro bono work for their community. The law students are trained by the LAFLHC before they are allowed to work with clients. The LAFLHC gives law students the opportunity to gain experience working one on one with clients who have various legal problems.
Mark Kiran, the founder of the LAFLHC, is a Loyola of Los Angeles Law School student who has experience working in the area of family law, including working at the Stanley Mosk Family Law Court House in downtown Los Angeles. After several years of working at the courthouse, Kiran recognized the growing demand for family law services in the Greater Los Angeles area, and took action. LAFLHC was founded in August 2007, and has since assisted countless in pro persona litigants with their legal matters.
