Liyann Seet Li Yan (薛莉燕) is a Singaporean beauty queen, investor, entrepreneur, commercial model and philanthropist. Seet has been profiled for her finance, investments and fashion in newspapers and magazines. She was a beauty pageant titleholder who was crowned Miss Asia Pacific Petite World 2013. Seet founded the International Children Foundation that advocates for equal educational opportunities for underprivileged children.

Early life and education

Liyann Seet was born on 9 April 1991 in Singapore. She is the second of three children. Her older sister, a banker, and younger sister who is an undergradaute student. When she was 13 years old, Liyann played touch rugby for her high school team. She was later the president of the Red Wings Touch Rugby Union and ventured into contact rugby.

Liyann attended Singapore Management University (SMU) and graduated with a bachelor of business management degree (finance major) in Singapore. She studied at New York University Atlantic Acting School in New York City. Seet was under the finance graduate program coursework at the Harvard University Extension School in 2013.

Career

Young investor / entrepreneur

Seet's investment story was featured on Singapore's newspaper on 8 July 2013. (The Straits Times). In the news report, 'Hit your target net worth', it reported that she had a stock portfolio with a 40 percent return. In the news report, Liyann attributed her success to joining the Singapore Management University Student Managed Investment Fund (SMU-SMIF). The article states that she squirrelled away cash from her internet businesses, modelling career and internships. It stated that her internships with Standard Chartered Investment Banking, Citibank, Century Properties Developer and Barons Capital Inc polished her investment skills.

Modelling

Seet signed on to commercial modelling agencies in Singapore when she was 16 years old. She has modelled for labels such as Sony, Taka Jewellery, Mediacorp's Kim Robinson Hair Secrets, TimeOut Magazine, Shiseido, Pure Lust Yacht, etc. She was featured for her finance, investments and fashion in newspapers and magazines, such as The Straits Times,The New Paper and FunkyGrad.

International children foundation

International Children Foundation was founded by Seet. International Children Foundation (ICF) is a Christian humanitarian non-profit organisation on a mission to provide equal educational opportunities to underprivileged children. The foundation seeks to provide underprivileged children with an education, one that gives them a profound knowledge of the global issues confronting the world and the skills needed to address them. ICF acts to expand the opportunities for them to make a difference in their communities. ICF partners with ABS-CBN Foundation (Bantay Bata 163). ABS-CBN Foundation Inc is the public service arm of ABS-CBN Broadcasting Corporation. ABS-CBN Broadcasting Corporation is one of Asia's biggest media conglomerates, and it is the oldest television network in the Philippines. ABS-CBN Foundation Inc aims to awaken hope in the Filipino community through implementing projects via multi-sector partnerships in the spirit of bayanihan.

Miss asia pacific petite world 2013 / miss petite world 2013

This pageant was created by Hollywood theatre actress, Kimberly White-Geremia, as a way to honour the accomplishments of women 5'6" and under while celebrating their beauty, intelligence and community involvement.

She was crowned as Miss Asia Pacific Petite World 2013, and the first runner-up Miss Petite World 2013. Noeli Pérez, a law graduate from Puerto Rico, won the national pageant title of Miss Petite World 2013. Kelly McIntosh, the previous queen of Miss America Petite World 2012, won the second runner-up of Miss Petite World 2013.

Liyann told the press in a phone interview from Miami that: “As a child, I was pretty upset that I was short. The toughest part was dealing with people calling me a hobbit. They think that it's funny, but it actually hurts. But I realised that no one is perfect, and it's more important to embrace my shortcomings.
