Liveoak Church
Liveoak Church, officially Live Oak Community Church, is a non-denominational, Bible-believing church in Austin, Texas. Liveoak Church is associated with Great Commission Ministries Churches(a part of Great Commission Global fellowship).
History
Liveoak Church was planted in 1978 as New Life Christian Fellowship by Herschel Martindale and a team from Houston, Texas. The church was officially incorporated in Texas in June 1982 under the name Lakeshore Christian Fellowship. When the church moved its meeting locations the name changed to Great commission church of Austin in July 1986 and again in September 1988 to South Austin Community Church. When the church moved out of south Austin in June 1990 it took on its present name, Live Oak Community Church.
In 1989 the leadership of the church transitioned to Mark Hagen as the sole pastor, and in 1991, Steve Reed moved from Albuquerque, New Mexico to co-pastor with Mark and focus on leading the college ministry, Longhorn Life. In 2000 Steve Reed moved to Orlando, Florida to help pastor H201. In 2002 Jeffrey Kobes was ordained as a pastor within Liveoak Church. Currently, Rudy Rivera is on staff working full time with the college ministry.
Historically, Liveoak Church has been focused on reaching college students, in particular students at The University of Texas.. This has positioned Liveoak to be training leaders to have a local and global impact. Hundreds of former members have been sent out to be leaders in their local churches. In addition Liveoak has sent out ministers to Floridia, Missouri, Oregon, Italy, Poland, Holland, Chinaand Japan.
