Stations with Turnbacks

Image:Island Platform with Centre Turnback Siding MPL.jpg|Island Platform with Centre Turnback Siding - Martin Place

Image:Station Layout Cronulla.gif|Track centres between the sidings are a wide 6.5m to allow crew and cleaners to walk safely between the tracks.

Image:Revesby Turnback Stage 1.jpg|Station with two through platforms and a Centre turnback platform - Revesby - under construction.

At Martin Place the track centres are very wide, and no slews are required to make room for Either the platform or the turnback siding, which are in any case all in tunnel. The advantage of a centre turnback, is that a train can enter or leave the turnback without blocking the opposite track. Compare this with the less satisfactory arrangement at East Hills.
