List of locations in Justice League (TV series)

The following is an overview of key locations depicted in the DC animated universe's Justice League and Justice League Unlimited TV series.

Headquarters

Hall of Justice

In the second part of episode "Apokolips...Now!" of Superman: The Animated Series, Superman is seen fighting Parademons in front of a building that resembles the Hall of Justice.

In the episode "Ultimatum" of the animated television series Justice League Unlimited, the Ultimen have a headquarters in a tall skyscraper. The top of their building resembles the Hall of Justice from the Super Friends television show. Later in the series' run, the Justice League opens an embassy on Earth called the Metrotower that resembles the Hall of Justice.

Justice League Satellite

In the Justice League animated series, Justice League headquarters is an orbiting satellite. Although the headquarters is referred to as the Justice League Watchtower, it's obvious that it was designed after the Justice League Satellite; at the time, the Watchtower was not a satellite in the comics, it was a building on the moon. This animated version of the Watchtower appears in several episodes of Justice League, as well as a two-part crossover episode of Static Shock. The heroes use the Javelin-7 spacecraft to travel to earth and back, in place of the comic book's transporter. The Watchtower is destroyed in the series finale episode, "Starcrossed", when Earth is attacked by invaders from the planet Thanagar.

In Justice League Unlimited, a new satellite Watchtower is introduced as a replacement for the original. The rebuilt satellite is substantially larger, in order to accommodate the many new members of the expanded League, as well as its many non-superhero personnel. There are now several Javelins, a teleportation system for beaming personnel down to earth, and a powerful energy weapon capable of causing massive damage on earth.

Justice League Watchtower

Two different versions of the Watchtower appear in the cartoons Justice League and Justice League Unlimited. Both are space stations, similar to the Justice League Satellite. Both were built and financed by Batman's alter ego, Bruce Wayne.

The original Watchtower was introduced in the first episode of the Justice League series, "Secret Origins." It had a meeting room, hangar, kitchen and medical facilities, as well as living quarters. Access to the Watchtower was primarily via the "Javelin-7", a form of personal spacecraft.

This station made its last appearance in the season two finale, "Starcrossed." When the Thanagarians attempted to build a hyperspace bypass on Earth (activating the generator would have destroyed the planet and everything On It), Batman knocked the Watchtower out of orbit, and dropped it on the hyperspace generator. Both the generator and the Watchtower were destroyed (Batman was rescued at the last second by Superman).

When the series resumed under its new title, Justice League Unlimited, a new, much larger Watchtower was unveiled. Designed to accommodate a large number of support staff and the expanded roster of League, the new Watchtower was depicted as a paramilitary base in orbit, surrounded by a network of subsidiary space stations. The Watchtower now has a larger kitchen, meeting, and medical facilities, and it is strongly implied that some members of the League live on the station full time.

Access to the station is primarily via a Star Trek-style teleporter, which is used by Watchtower employees who, it is implied, work there as regular day jobs. In one episode a group of employees are shown going to a remote farmer's field in order to be transported up to the station, suggesting involvement in the Watchtower is veiled in secrecy.

The second Watchtower also had extensive weaponry, most notably a binary fusion cannon pointing down at the Earth, which leads to conflict between the League and the American government. This weapon is dismantled after Lex Luthor hijacks it and uses it to fire upon an unsuspecting city.

Home locations of the founding members

Batman

Flash

The episode "Flash and Substance" is centered on the opening of the Flash Museum on "Flash Appreciation Day" in Central City, and featured many of the Flash's rogues in cameos, while focusing on Captain Boomerang, Mirror Master, Captain Cold, and The Trickster (VOICED by Mark Hamill). Linda Park also appears as a reporter covering the museum opening. Mirror Master alludes that Wally West may not have been the only Flash stating to the rest of the Rogues, "We've all been stopped by a Flash." Additionally, the episode "The Great Brain Robbery", saw The Flash and Lex Luthor inadvertently changing consciousness-Wally West (inside Lex Luthor's body) is tasked with trying to figure out what has occurred, escape, and not be killed by the suspicious members of the Legion of Doom.

Hawkgirl

Midway City

The Midway City Museum is the site of a battle between Hawkman, Hawkgirl, Vixen, and the Shadow Thief, in the Justice League Unlimited episode "Ancient History".

Thanagar

In the Justice League animated series, Hawkgirl Shayera Hol described Thanagar as "a war-like world—there one must strike first or die." The animated Thanagarians appear to have actual wings as part of their bodies. Like Hawkgirl, the main Thanagarian characters are all voiced by Hispanic actors (such as Golden Globe-nominee Héctor Elizondo (Kragger) or Rush Hour's Elizabeth Peña (Paran Dul)). In the episode "The Terror Beyond", it is learned that in ancient times, the people of Thanagar worshiped a pantheon of extradimensional entities known as The Great Old Ones. At that time, Thanagar was a hard world with a primitive and savage culture; in return for offering the ritual [...] of their own children to Ixthultu, the Old Ones leader, they received agriculture, mathematics, and philosophy — the foundations of their entire culture including their trademark Nth metal. For this reason, their weapons (such as Hawkgirl's mace and Hro Talak's battle-axe) have mystical properties and can work against Green Lantern's power ring or Superman's invulnerability. However, the Thanagarians, disgusted by their gods' bloody demands, ultimately refused to worship them. They would even drive them away using the anti-magic properties of their nth metal weapons.

Thanagar plays a crucial role in the "Starcrossed" episodes at the end of Season 2. An emissary of Thanagar, the army commander Hro Talak, declared to Earth that, "For generations, we on Thanagar have been locked in a bloody war with these monsters the Gordanians, referred to as 'our mortal enemies'." It was revealed that Hawkgirl was actually not a policewoman sent through a wormhole as she had earlier claimed, but a lieutenant with the army. Ostensibly, Shayera's duty was to be ambassador to the Earth (similar in capacity to her fellow Leaguer Wonder Woman's role for Patriarch's World and the Amazonian culture); she was to ensure mutual cooperation between Thanagar and Earth. Thus, she set up the alliance between the two planets when it seemed the Gordanians were about to invade the Earth. The Thanagarian army claimed they would set up a planetary force field to help the inhabitants of Earth. After gaining the support and acceptance of world governments and the Justice League, they forcefully imposed martial law and stated they were establishing a garrison on Earth. Lt. Hol believed that she was doing the best thing for Earth. However, not even she knew that the Thanagarians actually intended to build a hyper-space bypass network that they would use to assault the Gordanian homeworld. Hro Talak stated: When Lt. Hol protested that this would cause the destruction of Earth, Talak replied, "For Thanagar to live, Earth must die." At this point, Lt. Hol betrayed her homeworld to save her adopted homeworld, for which she was exiled and stripped of her rank. The Thanagarian military, under Cmdr. Talak's orders, retreated from Earth.

Justice League Unlimited

In Justice League Unlimited, it showed that Hro Talak's task force returned just after the final battle with the main force of the Gordanian invasion. In a [...] attack, Talak carried out a kamikaze ramming attack on the Gordanian flagship, motivated by revenge in despair over failing his mission. His action resulted in the destruction of the entire Gordanian fleet. Thanagar was completely conquered by the Gordanians, although an underground Resistance exists (such as the one on Korugar); the former army command operatives Paran Dul and Kragger mention having been part of it. The Thanagarian response to their final fall appears to be a general consensus blaming the action of Shayera Hol, as she destroyed their hope to defeat the Gordanians in the war, costing Thanagar its freedom. As a member of the Justice League's founding council, she admits her faults and justified her actions to the Justice League: Kragger, Paran Dul and a squadron of Thanagarians later desert the Resistance in order to exact revenge on Shayera, although the mission ends in their defeat. The final fate of Thanagar under Gordanian rule remains unknown.

Superman

Wonder Woman

Themyscira appears in several episodes of the Warner Brothers animated television series Justice League and in Justice League Unlimited as the homeland of Wonder Woman. In the first episode, Diana rides a horse with her mother along the shores of the island and watches aliens raining down upon Earth from afar. Later, after joining the League as Wonder Woman, The Flash offers her an Ice Mocha, which later in the series is implied to become her favourite drink. After tasting it, she replies, "Mmmm. They don't have these in Themyscira!" Themyscira was shown three more times on the series, once when the Justice League battled the sorcerer Felix Faust on its shores, again when a rogue Amazon named Aresia left the island to become a villain in Man's World, and also when the Annihilator was stolen and Wonder Woman and Shayera had to travel to the underworld through the gate on Themyscira.
