The Carisbrook was a 29,000 capacity cricket stadium situated in Dunedin, New Zealand. The stadium was opened on 11 March 1955 when hosts played against England. It was one of the international venues for 1992 Cricket World Cup and in removed from international arena in 2013. The final match was held on 25 February 2004, an ODI between New Zealand and South Africa.

Up to demolishing, in total the ground was the venue for 10 Test matches, and 21 One-Day International matches. In cricket, a five-wicket haul (also known as a "five-for" or "fifer") refers to a bowler Taking Five or more wickets in a single innings. This is regarded as a notable achievement.

The first bowler to take a five-wicket haul in a Test match at Carisbrook was Sonny Ramadhin, who took 6/23 in 1956 for West Indies against host New Zealand. Bowling figures of 5/52 by Intikhab Alam of Pakistan recorded as the best bowling figures to date in Tests at Caribrook. There have been a total of 14 five-wicket hauls in Test matches at the ground.

Since its first ODI on 30 March 1974 by New Zealand against Australia, then in 21 ODIs, there have been a total of only 2 five-wicket hauls taken at the ground during ODIs. The first of these was achieved by Vivian Richards who took 5/41 for West Indies against New Zealand in 1987.
