This is a list of songs that were either recorded or written by Guns N' Roses, but which are rare or never have been released for various reasons. Many of these are available on Guns N' Roses' fansites and/or bootleg albums.

Unreleased songs

  • Bring It Back Home is a song that was recorded during the Use Your Illusion sessions at Rumbo Recorders in Los Angeles, CA.
  • Crash Diet is a song that was recorded during the G N' R Lies sessions at Rumbo Recorders in Los Angeles, CA. It was later released by the band Asphalt Ballet on their 1993 album Pigs.
  • Goodnight Tonight is a song that is known only to have been performed once in 1986 at The Roxy. Izzy Stradlin has been known to play this in his solo shows, and it features on some Izzy bootlegs.
  • Just Another Sunday is a song that was recorded during the Use Your Illusion sessions at Rumbo Recorders in Los Angeles, CA.
  • Heartbreak Hotel is a Thomas Durden and Mae Boren Axton song, popularized by Elvis Presley, which was recorded by Guns N' Roses during the years leading up to the recording of Appetite for Destruction. The band played the song live a handful of times during 1986. Axl Rose and Izzy Stradlin also played Heartbreak Hotel live at the 1988 MTV Video Music Awards with Tom Petty.
  • Jumpin' Jack Flash is a Rolling Stones song recorded by Guns N' Roses during the years leading up to and including the recording of Appetite for Destruction. It was recorded a few different times in different incarnations; a slow electric and acoustic version are available in the bootlegging community.
  • Sentimental Movie is a song that was recorded during the Use Your Illusion sessions at Rumbo Recorders in Los Angeles, CA. It features bassist Duff McKagan on lead vocals - not guitarist Slash as is sometimes thought.
  • Shadow of Your Love exists in a number of versions. One lasts for 2 minutes, 43 seconds and begins with Axl Rose singing Wake up, it's time to play at the beginning. A remixed version exists and lasts 3 minutes. This remix can be found with overdubbed crowd noises (similar to the songs on the band's 1986 EP Live Like A [...]). Rose and Izzy Stradlin's pre-Guns N' Roses band Hollywood Rose recorded this song and it can be found on the 2004 album of demos Hollywood Rose: The Roots Of Guns N' Roses.

Most of the above, plus others from the same sessions, are available on a unofficial release entitled Unwanted Illusions.

  • Ain't Goin' Down was a song that was used in the Guns N' Roses pinball machine. A full-length studio version can be found on various GN'R fansites. It was played live once in 1986 at the Whisky a Go Go in Los Angeles.
  • Too Much Too Soon was also recorded during the UYI sessions.
  • Cornshucker (sometimes called Cornchucker) was written by bassist Duff McKagan and was performed live once. An acoustic version was recorded during the sessions for G N' R Lies. It was considered too obscene to put on the album.
  • It Tastes Good, Don't It? was written by the band during A Tour with Iron Maiden. On a bootlegged version of the song, Axl Rose states that they wrote it in an attempt to be kicked off the tour. During the band's early days, they would perform the song live, however, during the Use Your Illusion Tour, Rose would sometimes sing the first verse in the middle of the song Rocket Queen. This can be heard on the second half of the band's Live In Tokyo video.
  • Rhiad & The Bedouins was performed live during the 2001/2002 tour and was scheduled to be on the unreleased Chinese Democracy album. Although keyboardist Dizzy Reed stated in a pre-2006 interview that this song was not to be featured on Chinese Democracy, the song may still be under consideration for the album as it was seen to be listed on the picture of the 2006 setlist that revealed the titles "Prostitute" and "If the World."
  • Silkworms was also performed live on the 2001/2002 tour. Although Silkworms was to Appear on Chinese Democracy, keyboardist Dizzy Reed stated in an interview that it would not be on the album.
  • Better was performed during the 2006 tour and two different versions were leaked onto the internet.
  • Chinese Democracy was performed during 2001/2002 tours and 2006 North American tours and a demo was leaked onto the internet in 2007.
  • The Blues was performed during 2001/2002 and 2006 tours and a demo was leaked onto the internet in 2007.
  • Catcher in the Rye was leaked onto the internet in mid-2006. It features Queen guitarist Brian May.
  • There Was A Time was performed twice during the 2006 tour and 3 demos have leaked onto the internet.
  • I.R.S. was performed during the 2006 tour and 3 demos have leaked onto the internet.
  • Madagascar was performed during 2001/2002 and 2006 tours and a demo was leaked onto the internet in early 2007.
  • Checkmate 1 is the title given to a short clip leaked onto radio and internet in May 2006. It has not been confirmed as to whether the song is actually by Guns N' Roses and this is still a subject of debate among fans. The song title may also be incorrect. Many fans state that the song is unreleased Chinese Democracy material known as "No Love Remains" but have no proof to back it up.
  • Sorry was mentioned by former Skid Row singer (and friend of Axl Rose) Sebastian Bach, who stated the song sounded like doom metal.
  • Prostitute is a title mentioned in numerous articles, and was seen on a picture of a setlist, which briefly appeared on the band's official website.
  • If The World was also seen on the setlist picture.
  • Sway was another title featured on the setlist picture. This is likely a reference to The Rolling Stones song Sway, which Guns N' Roses performed on July 29, 2006 at Wembley Arena in London.
  • This I Love has been mentioned in the past by Axl Rose as an important song he was writing.
