List of computer and video game collector and limited editions

More often in recent years computer and video games have been released with collector / limited that are packaged with bonus materials and enhancements not available in the standard release. Such bonuses can range from special packaging to artwork to bonus discs containing extra content. These versions are typically of limited release and act as promotional tools for the publisher, and items of value for collectors.

Before making additions please note - not all titles released under a "Special/Super/Etc EDition" are necessarily in any substantial way superior to the standard edition. To control the scope of this list it strictly covers editions released with extra materials and/or content, that were limited in almost every case. It also only refers to titles released for the North American market, again to help maintain a discriminate list. The Japanese market, for example, sees many dozens of titles every year get a special edition release. Game of the Year editions, Gold, or Platinum editions are all examples of re-releases and rarely contain anything of extra value, and thus do not have a place in this list. Multi-console

• Call of Duty 2: Big Red One Collector's Edition (PS2/Xbox) — a bonus DVD with interviews, motion capture and voice recording footage, and more.
• Driver: Parallel Lines Limited Edition (PS2/Xbox) — a soundtrack CD, a making-of DVD (with interviews and other features), a map of the game's New York City, and mini-posters of the game's characters.
• The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Collector's Edition (PC/Xbox 360) — bonus 2nd DVD featuring a behind-the-scenes documentary, concept art, a Septims replica coin, and a 112 page "Pocket Guide to the Empire" with historical information, important figure profiles, and other realistically rendered details about the The Elder Scrolls saga.
• The Godfather: The Game Limited Edition (PS2/Xbox) — bonus interviews and special featurettes, including behind-the-scenes videos with stars James Caan and Robert Duvall, making of the game footage, a documentary on the cultural impact of The Godfather and a video walkthrough to help players through the game.
• Mark Ecko's Getting Up: Under Pressure Limited Edition (PS2/Xbox) — large metal case, extra DVD with documentaries on graffiti culture, making of the game and art from the game, soundtrack cd, leather-bound book with art from the game, "Mark Ecko" silver pen.
• Need for Speed: Most Wanted Black Edition (PC/PS2/Xbox) — additional exclusive cars, races and specially-tuned cars; and a bonus DVD with behind the scenes footage of model/actress, Josie Maran, concept art, exclusive videos.
• Prey Limited Collector's Edition (PC/Xbox 360) — special metal packaging, two die-cast pewter figurines of Tommy and the alien Hunter, a free download to the soundtrack, and "The Art of Prey" book featuring collected conceptual and development images.
• Robotech: Battlecry Collector's Edition (GCN/PS2/Xbox) — individually numbered box, game soundtrack, t-shirt, five art cards, lenticular motion card, and Robotech Defense Force dog tag.
• Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory Collector's Edition (GCN/PC/PS2/Xbox) — metallic embossed collector's DVD case, on a second disc a "making of" feature and development diaries, an art gallery, a Penny Arcade spy training manual, and other video features and trailers.

Dreamcast

• Sonic Adventure 2 10th Anniversary Birthday Pack — a leather bound case, a commemorative gold coin, a 10th Anniversary History Booklet about the history of Sonic, and a special CD soundtrack, containing music from many of Sonic's more notable videogame appearances.

GameCube

• Mario Kart: Double Dash!! — first shipment copies included a 2-disc case with a bonus disc.
• The Legend of Zelda Collector's Edition — complete, emulated versions of The Legend of Zelda, Zelda II: The Adventure of Link, The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time (standard version), and The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask, also The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker demo, and Zelda series retrospective video clips; though merely a collection of re-released games, this title was a limited release only available during the holidays of 2003.

Nintendo 64

• The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time Gold Edition — preordered copies of the cartridge were gold colored; all other copies used the standard grey N64 cartridge.
• The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask Lenticular Edition — preordered copies of the cartridge had a lenticular holographic label; all other copies used a standard printed label.

PC

• Age of Empires III Collector's Edition — oversized sliding case, hardbound 210-page "The Art of Empires" book, a "Making of Age of Empires III" DVD with behind-the-scenes video and commentary, the official soundtrack, a 43-in. x 27-in. full-color poster of concept art, an exclusive Player's Guide, and a Collector's Edition Game Manual.
• Auto Assault Limited Edition — a headset, a soundtrack CD featuring music by Richard Dekkard, an exclusive in-game remote control car (pet), all three starter packs for the Auto Assault Online Trading Card Game, and a 14-day friend pass.
• Axis & Allies Collector's Edition — Bonus strategy guide from Prima
• Call of Duty 2: Collector's Edition — DVD version; game trailers and concept art, mission walkthroughs and DVD-style developer commentary, a narration by veteran Ranger Len Lomell about the assault on Pointe du Hoc, and interviews with the voice-over cast.
• City of Heroes Collector's DVD Edition — exclusive in-game items: a translucent cape and a badge, a limited edition Statesman HeroClix figure, 16-page PVPonline mini-comic book, a Paragon City fold-out map and City of Villains poster, a 32-page booklet, an excerpt from the City of Heroes novel, "The Web of Arachnos," the winning entries from the City of Heroes Film Festival, and preview trailers of the City of Villains expansion and other NCsoft titles.
• City of Villains Collector's Edition — a set of seven limited-edition HeroClix figures from WizKids, the DVD version of the game, exclusive in-game cape and chest emblem from Arachnos, map of The Rogue Isles, book featuring art from City of Villains and City of Heroes, demo deck of the City of Heroes CCG, and City of Heroes CCG foil collector's card of the Statesman.

• Diablo II Collector's Edition — Included a much larger size box (around 9"x15"), CD soundtrack, cinematic DVD (included all in game cinematics), a special edition manual with the developers' autographs in the back cover. Also included a set of Diablo II RPG materials - the quest book, rules book, DM screen, character sheets, dice set, and cut-out map tiles. This was based on AD&D 2nd edition rules.
• Dreamfall: The Longest Journey Limited Edition - white cardboard case, soundtrack CD featuring 4 songs, 89-page artbook with concept sketches, and three pieces of original art.
• The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind Collector's Edition — exclusive black box, soundtrack CD, an Ordinator figurine by Rawcliffe, and a 48-page book called The Art of Morrowind.

• Heroes of Might and Magic V Super Collector's Edition — a numbered and authenticated unique sliding case, game on DVD, full version of Heroes of Might and Magic II, three additional single scenario maps and a unique hero "Aura", a printed map of Ashan, an artbook by Olivier Ledroit, a faction document of in-game creature stats and skills, a coin purse containing a coin - one of the 4,000 which was, rather than the general silver coin, instead a Golden Thaler, the finder of which who won an additional prize from Ubisoft.
