List of characters in the Goosebumps Series
This is a list of human characters from the young adult horror series Goosebumps, in alphabetical order. For an equivalent list of monsters and villains, see Monsters in the Goosebumps series.

- Alan Miller: A tall, thin boy with straggly blond hair and a dog named Rusty. Best friends with Fred Drake and Danny Anderson, but tends to side with Fred in egging Danny on to cause trouble. A vandal and a thief whose antics almost lead to Danny's death when an arson trick goes wrong. Appears in The Ghost Next Door.
- Alexander DuBrow: Appears in Deep Trouble.
- Amanda Benson: Moves to a new house in Dark Falls after her father inherits it from his Great Uncle Charles. Has a brother named Josh and a dog named Petey. Prior to moving, Amanda had a best friend named Kathy. Narrates Welcome to Dead House.
- Andrea 'Andy': Friend of Evan, the protagonist of the Monster Blood books. She lives near his Great-Aunt Kathryn and later moves to Evan's home town. Appears in Monster Blood and its sequels.
- Anna Frost: Judith Bellwood's best friend and basketball team-mate, until Samantha Byrd's wish causes Judith to obsess over her. Joins in with teasing Samantha and is unable to understand Judith's sudden change of heart when she ditches her for Samantha. Appears in Be Careful What You Wish For... .
- Anne Gravel: The best friend and neighbor of Dana Johnson. She is very competitive, loves animals and has a dog named Stubby. Appears in Egg Monsters from Mars.
- April: One of Max's friends. Is with him, Erin, Lefty and Zack when they discovers the magic mirror in the attic, but is far more nervous of it than the others, reluctant to enter into to competitions they hold to see who can stay invisible the longest. Because of this, she is the only one never to meet or be replaced by her evil reflection. Appears in Let's Get Invisible.
- Arnold: Appears in Beware of the Purple Peanut Butter.
- Audrey: The nurse at Samantha Byrd's school. Appears in Be Careful What You Wish For... .
- Aunt Fiona: Appears in Beware of the Purple Peanut Butter.
- "Abby": Petres sister and narrator of "Whos your mummy?"

- Barney: Appears in Beware of the Purple Peanut Butter.
- Ben Hassad: Uncle of Gabe Hassan on his mother's side. Appears in The Curse of the Mummy's Tomb and Return of the Mummy.
- Bradley: Also known as Skipper. Narrates Attack of the Mutant.
- Brandy Johnson: The ten-year-old little sister of Dana Johnson. Apparently able to get anything she wants by putting on a cute face and asking nicely, even from Dana. Has an egg-hunt for her tenth birthday (which is in April) that results in Dana's discovery of the egg monsters. Appears in Egg Monsters from Mars.
- Beth: Mrs. Quilty's friend. Appears in The Ghost Next Door.
- Beth Baker: Appears in Go Eat Worms!.
- Biggie Malick: Appears in Monster Blood II.
- Bill Fairchild: Appears in The Ghost Next Door.
- Billy: Narrator of Welcome to Camp Nightmare.

- "Britney Crosby": Victim of slappy the dummy along with Molly Molloy in "Revenge of the living dummy"

- Carly Beth: An easily scared girl who buys an Unloved face mask. Stars in The Haunted Mask and narrates The Scream of the Haunted Mask, as well as appearing in the next eight Goosebumps HorrorLand books. Also appears in The Haunted Mask II.
- Casey Brewer: Brother of Margaret and son of Dr. Brewer. Appears in Stay Out of the Basement.
- Cassie O'Rourke: Appears in The Werewolf of Fever Swamp.
- Charlene: Eddie, Hat and Molly's friend. Has short brown hair and blue eyes, is around 5" 2 and is usually seen wearing faded jeans and oversized T shirts. Has a large but gentle dog named Buttercup. Joins the other three in attempting to come up with A Plan to scare Courtney. Always tries to look on the bright side of every situation. Appears in You Can't Scare Me!.
- Chris: Appears in Welcome to Camp Nightmare.
- Clarissa: Appears in Be Careful What You Wish For... and is the basis for the Madame Doom machines that appear in Goosebumps HorrorLand.
- Clay: Friend of Luke Morris; is on the road with the Morris family when they get lost and finish up in HorrorLand. Appears in One Day at HorrorLand and Return to HorrorLand.
- Coach Rafferty: Appears in My Hairiest Adventure.
- Colin: Appears in Welcome to Camp Nightmare.
- Conan Barber: Town bully nicknamed "Conan the Barbarian." Appears in Monster Blood II, Monster Blood III and Monster Blood IV.
- Cory Blinn: Best friend of Samantha Byrd, shorter than her despite being the tallest boy in their year group at school. Appears in Be Careful What You Wish For... .
- Courtney: The seemingly unscareable 'nemesis' of Eddie and his friends. She is not afraid of bees, snakes or tarantulas - she even turns an actual encounter with Mud Monsters to her advantage. Her best friend is Denise. Appears in You Can't Scare Me!.

- Dana Johnson: A chubby twelve-year-old boy with glasses and straight black hair. He loved Ninja Turtles when he was ten (a fact he now denies), but his interests now lie in science; an enthusiasm probably inherited from his parents - both scientists. He has an ant farm and two tarantulas in his bedroom. He finds an egg that hatches into an 'egg monster' and seems to 'merge' with them, eventually Laying an egg. His best friend is Anne Gravel and his little sister is Brandy. Narrates Egg Monsters from Mars.

- Dr. Grey: A scientist who captures the egg monsters in an attempt to learn from them. Has a great desire to contain any threat they may pose to Earth and its citizens, and although he attempts to kidnap Dana because he has touched them, he only does what he believes to be right. Appears in Egg Monsters from Mars.
- Dr. Harlan: Appears in Beware of the Purple Peanut Butter.
- Dr. Murkin: Appears in My Hairiest Adventure.
E
- Ed Warner: Appears in The Werewolf of Fever Swamp.
- Eddie: A cowardly sixth-grader of AbOUT 5" 2. Determined to scare Courtney after she humiliates him in front of the class once too often. Attempts to come up with a plan to do so but is unable to - eventually tries to scare her with fake 'Mud Monsters' but in fact encounters real ones. This leads to his being anxious and scared for months afterwards. Has one brother - Kevin. Narrates You Can't Scare Me!.
- Effy: Appears in Beware of the Purple Peanut Butter.
- Ellen: Samantha Byrd's gym teacher. Determined that Samantha ought to be a natural at basketball, due to her unusual height, but mistaken in this belief. Admits that she doesn't actually know much about basketball - she only coaches the after-school club because she needs the extra money it pays. Seems not to notice the teasing that goes on in her lessons. Appears in Be Careful What You Wish For... .
- Emily Tucker: The sister of Grady Tucker. Appears in The Werewolf of Fever Swamp.
- Erin: One of Max's friends. Is keen to win the competitions the friends instigate to see who can stay invisible for the longest time. Also wants to use the mirror to win the school science fair and get in People magazine. Is replaced by her evil 'mirror twin' but is freed by Max when he destroys the mirror. Appears in Let's Get Invisible!.
- Evan Ross: Lead character in Monster Blood, Monster Blood II, Monster Blood III and Monster Blood IV.
F
- Frank: Appears in Welcome to Camp Nightmare.
- Fred Drake: A short, stout boy with spiky black hair. Best friends with Alan Miller and Danny Anderson, but tends to side with Alan in egging Danny on to cause trouble. A vandal and a thief whose actions almost lead to Danny's death when an attempt at arson turns sour. Appears in The Ghost Next Door.

- Gabe Hassan: Nephew of Ben Hassad (who is his mother's brother), cousin of Sari Hassad. Narrates The Curse of the Mummy's Tomb and Return of the Mummy.
- George 'Dr. D' Deep: Appears in Deep Trouble, Deep Trouble II and Creep from the Deep.
- Grady Tucker: Lead character and narrator of The Werewolf of Fever Swamp.
H
- The Hair Sisters: Three girls (not actually sisters), so dubbed by Dana Johnson because of their habit of spending afternoons after school in Brandy Johnson's room doing each other's hair. Appear in Egg Monsters from Mars.
- Hannah Fairchild: A girl spending the summer alone because all her friends have left town. Hannah is twelve years old and has younger twin brothers, Bill and Herb. She becomes frustrated when her best friend (who is away at summer camp) does not answer Hannah's letters, but is then distracted when a boy named Danny moves in next door. Hannah becomes suspicious of Danny and his strange behavior, eventually coming to suspect that he is a ghost. When Danny puts his hand right through her body she discovers the truth - she is a ghost and was killed in a house fire along with her family when she and her brothers failed to put out the bonfire they had started outside. She has been Returned to Earth to save Danny from the same fate, and rescues him when he is trapped in a burning building that his friends had set fire to. Narrator of The Ghost Next Door.

- Herb Fairchild: One of Hannah Fairchild's younger twin brothers. Appears in The Ghost Next Door.
- Herbie: Herbie is Eddie's best friend. The two have known each other since the fourth grade. He is the joker of the group. Has a big grin and large ears. More commonly known as 'Hat' due to the fact that he is almost never seen without a baseball cap, and when at last it is removed his hair is found to be greasy and shaped to his head - he reveals that he doesn't see the point in washing his hair. Appears in You Can't Scare Me!.
- Howie Hurwin: Appears in My Hairiest Adventure.
J
- Janey Pace: Hannah Fairchild's best friend. Away at camp for the summer, but Hannah writes to her often. She doesn't write back, and although Hannah believes at first that this is because she is too busy to remember her, it turns out that it is because Hannah is in fact dead. Appears in The Ghost Next Door.
- Jared: Appears in My Hairiest Adventure.
- Jasper: The Boyd family's pet cat. Appears in My Hairiest Adventure.
- Jay: Appears in Welcome to Camp Nightmare.
- Jerome 'Jerry': Appears in Piano Lessons Can Be [...].
- Jimmy Starenko: Appears in Attack of the Mutant.
- John: Appears in Return of the Mummy.
- Josh Benson: Moves to a new house in Dark Falls after his father inherits it from his Great Uncle Charles. Has a sister named Amanda and a dog named Petey. Appears in Welcome to Dead House.
- Josh Goodman: A boy named by Danny Anderson as being in his eighth-grade class at Maple Avenue Middle School. Appears in The Ghost Next Door.
- Judith Bellwood: A skilled basketball player because of her natural grace and athleticism. Pretty, with creamy skin, green eyes and copper hair, and about 5" 2. Worst enemy of Samantha Byrd and enjoys tripping her up in lessons, calling her names and GeneRally teasing her about her clumsiness and height. Loses her ability to play basketball and becomes very ill when Samantha wishes herself the best player on the basketball team. Vanishes along with everyone else when Samantha wishes that she would disappear, and then becomes a stalker-like best friend to Samantha. Eventually, is granted three wishes of her own. The First One she makes is that Samantha becomes a real bird. Appears in Be Careful What You Wish For... .
K
- Kevin: Eddie's older brother. Is in high school and is working with a group of friends to make a horror video centered around the local 'Mud Monster' legend for one of his courses. In return for Eddie's being his slave for a month, agrees to scare Courtney by using his costumes to trick her into thinking she's been seen by the Mud Monsters. Arrives late, and misses the real Mud Monster's appearance. Appears in You Can't Scare Me!.
- Kim Li Chin: Appears in Piano Lessons Can Be [...].
- Kristina: Appears in My Hairiest Adventure.
- Kurt: Appears in Welcome to Camp Nightmare.

- Larry: One of the counsolors at Camp Night Moon. Appears in Welcome to Camp Nightmare.

- Marissa Hurwin: Younger sister of Howie Hurwin. Appears in My Hairiest Adventure.
- Max: Discovers a magic mirror with the ability to turn living beings invisible on his twelfth birthday. Has thick, wavy, golden-brown hair, of which he is very proud. Best friends with Erin, Zack and April, whom he eventually saves from being permanently stuck in the 'reflection land' in which they had been trapped. Narrates Let's Get Invisible.
- Margaret Brewer: The protagonist of Stay Out of the Basement.
- Mary Evander: Mike Evander's wife and Max and Lefty's neighbor. She puts his apparent 'hallucinations' down to being out in the sun too long without a cap. Appears in Let's Get Invisible.
- Michael F. Tucker: Father of Grady and Emily Tucker. Appears in The Werewolf of Fever Swamp.
- Mike: Appears in Welcome to Camp Nightmare.
- Mike Evander: The bald, overweight neighbor of Max and Lefty. Is the victim of a prank in which three of the tomatoes he grows in his back garden are juggled in front of him by an invisible Zack. Married to Mary Evander. Appears in Let's Get Invisible.
- Miss Grant: Appears in Go Eat Worms!.
- Miss Klein: Appears in Piano Lessons Can Be [...].
- Miss Prince: One of the sixth grade teachers at Eddie's school. She takes his class on a field trip to Greene Forest with Mr. Melvin. Appears in You Can't Scare Me!.
- Miss Shindling: Appears in My Hairiest Adventure.
- Molly: Eddie, Hat and Charlene's friend. Has short brown hair and blue eyes, is around 5" 2 and is usually seen wearing faded jeans and oversized T shirts. Wears glasses and has a red and blue brace, which she likes to show off. Is in on the plan to drop a tarantula onto Courtney's head but gets a taste of her own medicine when the plan backfires and the arachnid is dropped onto her head by mistake. Appears in You Can't Scare Me!.
- Mr. Barber: Father of Conan Barber. Appears in Monster Blood II.
- Mr. Chesney: The post office manager in Hannah Fairchild's town. Hated by local children because of his hatred of them, he throws stones at dogs and threatens children with his shotgun. Has delusions of grandeur and treasures his swan-shaped mailbox. When Fred Drake and Alan Miller attempt to burn down his house, Danny Anderson is almost killed, but is saved by Hannah, whose ghost then 'moves on'. Appears in The Ghost Next Door.
- Mr. Dawes: A real estate agent. Appears in Welcome To Dead House.
- Mr. Dollinger: Eddie's science teacher. He keeps two tarantulas in a cage in his science room - these are used in an attempt to scare Courtney by Eddie. Appears in You Can't Scare Me!.
- Mr. Fosburg: Appears in My Hairiest Adventure.
- Mr. Harder: Appears in The Ghost Next Door.
- Mr. Martinez: Former boss of Dr. Brewer. Appears in Stay Out of the Basement. Renamed "Dr. Marek in the TV episode.
- Mr. Melvin: One of the sixth grade teachers at Eddie's school. Young-acting - uses phrases like 'be cool' in an attempt to BOND with his young charges. Takes Eddie's class on a field trip to Greene Forest with Miss Prince and is later the Recipient of a green rubber snake planted by Eddie and his friends in Courtney's lunch bag when she shares her lunch with him. Appears in You Can't Scare Me!.
- Mr. Murphy: Science teacher at Evan Ross's school. Appears in Monster Blood II.
- Mr. Russo: Eddie's gym teacher. When Eddie and Hat's attempt to scare Courtney with tarantulas fails, Mr Russo punishes him by instructing him to clean the science labs every afternoon after school for two weeks and to write one thousand word essays on why what they did was wrong. Appears in You Can't Scare Me!.
- Mr. Showalter: Appears in Deep Trouble.
- Mr. Stone: Samantha Byrd's dentist. Supposed to be fitting her with a brace - apparently very in demand, as appointments with him are hard to come by. Appears in Be Careful What You Wish For... .
- Mrs. Anderson: Danny Anderson's mother. Her inability to hear Hannah Fairchild knocking on her window is one of the things that leads Hannah to believe that the Andersons are a family of ghosts, but it later turns out that she is deaf because of an ear infection she once had, although she doesn't like to talk about it. Appears in The Ghost Next Door.
- Mrs. Bellwood: Judith Bellwood's mother. Answers the phone to Samantha Byrd but won't allow her to speak with her daughter, as Judith is ill. Later invites Samantha in to talk when she shows up on her doorstep. Appears in Be Careful What You Wish For... .
- Mrs. Fairchild: Appears in The Ghost Next Door.
- Mrs. Brewer: Mother of Margaret and Casey. Appears in Stay Out of the Basement.
- Mrs. Gravel: Anne Gravel's mother. Allows her garden to be used as part of the egg-hunt that results in Dana's discovery of the egg monsters and attempts to put one down the garbage disposal when she mistakes it for rotten eggs. Appears in Egg Monsters from Mars.
- Mrs. Harder: Appears in The Ghost Next Door.
- Mrs. Quilty: One of Hannah Fairchild's neighbors. Ignores Hannah when weeding, although this turns out not to be through rudeness but because she can't see Hannah because she is a ghost. Appears in The Ghost Next Door.
- Mrs. Rudolph: One of Eddie's neighbors. She is blonde. When her cat gets stuck in a tree, she asks Eddie to help get him down, but Eddie is too scared and the job falls to Courtney. After this, Mrs. Rudolph appears to regard Eddie as a coward. Appears in You Can't Scare Me!.
- Mrs. Vonn: Appears in My Hairiest Adventure.
- Mrs. Warner: Appears in The Werewolf of Fever Swamp.
- Ms Wickman: Appears in Deep Trouble.
- "Molly Molloy": Britney Crosbys best freind. Appears in "Revenge of the living dummy"

- Nancy: Appears in Return of the Mummy.
- Nila Rahmad: Supposedly a reporter for the Cairo Sun, she is actually Princess Nila, sister of Prince Khor-Ru, whom she seeks to restore to life in order for the two to rule Egypt together. She maintained her own life by becoming a scarab and crawling inside an amber pendant at night, and its destruction causes her to be turned permanently into a scarab. The villain of Return of the Mummy.
- Noah: More commonly known as 'Lefty' because of his left-handedness (unique within his family), Noah is the ten-year-old younger brother of Max. He is a troublemaker who is never able to learn from his mistakes. Eventually he is trapped via a mirror in a 'reflection land' and his reflection is freed into the real world, which is discovered when he uses his right hand to play catch. Appears in Let's Get Invisible.

- Dr. Omar Fielding: Appears in Return of the Mummy.

- Tommy's mother: Is mistaken for Clarissa by Samantha Byrd. However, looks nothing like her. Has a son named Tommy and also a younger daughter. Appears in Be Careful What You Wish For... .

- Zack: One of Max's friends. Is very competitive, which in part leads to the who-can-stay-invisible-the-longest- competitions that lead to Lefty, Erin and him becoming trapped in the mirror world. Soon after getting stuck he is recognized because of his unusual hairstyle - shaved short on the left side and left long, pulled to the side, on the right. Is saved when the mirror into which he has disappeared is broken. Appears in Let's Get Invisible.
- Zackie Beauchamp: Narrator of The Blob That Ate Everyone.
