This is a list of characters from the Cars universe that were used outside of Cars and Cars 2.

Mater's Tall Tales

These are characters that are only seen in the spin-off short series, Mater's Tall Tales. This excludes Mia and Tia, who appear in different forms throughout where described.

Rescue Squad Mater

• Rescue Squad Chopper
• Rescue Squad Trooper
• Rescue Squad Ambulance
• Nurse GTO

Mia and Tia are depicted as dalmatians.

Mater the Greater

• Buck the Tooth Vender - a souvenir vendor who sells "two buck teeth for one buck".
• Lug and Nutty - Mater's pit-crew assistants. They also appear at the end, cleaning up the cans that Mater landed in at the start of the short.
• Props McGee - a biplane who Mater rides in one scene of this short.

Mia and Tia are depicted as fans of Mater the Greater.

El Materdor

• Chuy - the first bulldozer that Mater fights, until the bulldozer summons reinforcements.
• Padre - a priest who gives a funeral speech when Mater was supposedly buried alive by Chuy.

Mia and Tia are depicted as señoritas.

(U.F.M.) Unidentified Flying Mater

• Mator - A small UFO who Mater befriends and then is captured by the military and taken to Parking Area 51, though is later rescued by Mater.
• Dr. Abschlepp Wagen - A disguise adopted by Mater when he infiltrates Parking Area 51 to rescue Mator.

Mia and Tia are depicted as military officers.

Tokyo Mater

• Kabuto - the antagonist of the short. When Mater gently bumps into him, he challenges the tow truck to a drift race. In the end, Mater wins and Kabuto is stripped of his modifications and reduced to "stock".
• Ito-San - A Japanese car who Mater tows back to Tokyo.

Mia and Tia are depicted as modified versions of themselves.

Monster Truck Mater

• I-Screamer - an ice cream monster truck who was Mater's first opponent. He was defeated when Mater posed as a child and asked for a double dipped, dipstick sundae, then when I-Screamer's back was turned, Mater used his tow hook to flip him over. To add insult to injury, Mater sprayed the entire contents of a fire extinguisher onto him, and topped it off with the empty extinguisher.
• Captain Collision - a militaristic Hummer H2 monster truck who was immediately defeated by Mater after the Captain ordered him to "drop and give me 20!", to which Mater replied "I'll give ya 3!"
• The Rasta Carian - a Rastafarian monster truck with a false dreadlock wig. He had Mater in one of his famous gridlocks, but Mater used strength to pull the dreadlocks off and free himself, flipping the wrestler in the process.
• Dr. Feel Bad - an ambulance monster truck who was shot into a nearby hospital by Mater.
• Paddy O'Concrete - an Irish cement mixer monster truck who tried to encase Mater in concrete, but the flow was divereted by Mater onto Paddy.
• Dr. Frankenwagon - a dimunitive van and the World Champion of the Monster Truck Wrestling federation. He himself doesn't fight, but uses his Monster -made from construction vehicle parts (similar to the Banshee)- to fight for him. Mater used trickery to flip the entire arena over and defeat both Frankenwagon and the Monster.

Mia and Tia are depicted as wrestling fans, and Mater flirts with them at one point.

Heavy Metal Mater

• Dex - a red version of Tex.
• Eddie and Rocky - two pittys who serve as guitarists in Mater's band.
• Drummer Pitty - A drummer pitty who was inevitably responsible for the heavy metal style of their song.

Mia and Tia first appear as waitresses, and later appear as fans at Heavy Metal Mater's concert.

Moon Mater

• Roger - a space shuttle who Mater rides aboard to the moon to rescue Impala XIII.
• Impala XIII - A stranded "autonaut" whom Mater was assigned to rescue from the moon.

Mia and Tia wish Mater luck on his mission.

Mater Private Eye

• Big D - a crime lord who made conterfeit Lightyear tyres (labeled "Lite Yeer") that caused blowouts on those who were equipped with them.
• Stinky - a garbage truck who points Mater in the direction of the docks, where Stinky used to work.

Mia and Tia play an important part in this short, as Tia serves as Mater's old flame and Mia had been carnapped.
