List of British parliamentary constituencies held by the Conservative Party
The British Conservative Party, founded in 1832 and the most successful political party in the world, have been in opposition since their devastating 1997 loss to Labour. In 2001 they made a net gain of a single seat. However, in 2005, they made substantial inroads, which have seen them revitalizing, and many commentators predicting a Conservative landslide in 2010 based on recent opinion polls.
2005 gains and losses
In 2005, the Conservatives gained thirty-seven seats; thirty-one from Labour, five from the Liberal Democrats, and one from the Democratic Unionists. However, they also lost three seats to the LibDems, and one (notionally) to Labour. One gain from Labour was a notional gain, as it was a new seat.
