List of borderless countries

A country with no land border may be defined as an island country that does not share the land territory of any of its island(s) with any other country.
The Republic of Ireland, for example, is an island country that does not fall within this category. It shares the island of Ireland with the United Kingdom (through Northern Ireland) and thus has a land border. Madagascar, on the other hand, has no land border because none of its islands is shared with another country.
Such a country does not have to be located on a single island - countries such as the Federated States of Micronesia consist of thousands of islands.
In the example of Australia, most geographers would argue that one country controls the entire mainland of a continent. Cuba is a disputed case of an island country because the United States exercises effective sovereignty over part of Guantanamo Bay. Cyprus is not a disputed case, regardless of the existence of the unrecognised Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, as the British sovereign base areas of Akrotiri and Dhekelia are now accorded full status by nearly all relevant authorities as full-fledged sovereign British dependencies.
