LinkedGov

LinkedGov is a UK-based community project to enrich open government data with Linked Data, removing barriers to creating applications, new business models and innovation in public services.

History

LinkedGov began as an idea in July 2010, imagined as a project to link up UK government data following the success of data.gov.uk. Funding began in September 2010 with sponsorship by UK government's Technology Strategy Board through IC Tomorrow, with whom LinkedGov currently share an office.

Overview of the technology

An online factory is being created with the aim of cleaning and linking all UK public data. The diagram below outlines the technical architecture.

Response

In April 2011 Francis Maude, Minister for the Cabinet Office, welcomed LinkedGov's first HackCamp saying "Events like this weekend help us to explore innovative approaches with data and build on the momentum that has already been created behind the government’s transparency agenda".
