Life of Black Tiger

Life of Black Tiger is a downloadable video game, initially released as a free-to-play game on mobile platforms in June 2014, and later ported to the PlayStation 4 as a paid download in January 2017.

Gameplay

The player controls the titular black tiger, who was rejected and abandoned at birth by its parents due to its appearance. While the game has a story mode, the missions contained therein tend to follow broadly the same format of having to hunt down and kill a particular number of either animals or humans across varying terrains. Other missions include having to survive attacks by packs of other animals, usually wolves or other tigers, for a certain amount of time.

Reception

The game received a highly negative critical reaction when it was released on the PlayStation 4, being judged not only as one of the worst games on the platform, but one of the worst console video games of all-time, with criticisms focusing around its technical shortcomings, awkward controls, and poor English translation, as well as having to pay for the game when it offered no improvements in terms of graphics or gameplay over the previous, free-to-play mobile version.

EuroGamer described the game as "stupendously bad," and deemed it to be both the worst PlayStation 4 game released until that point, along with the worst game of its console generation. Kotaku expressed bewilderment that Sony had not only agreed to release the game on their platform, but to actively promote it as well. Gaming journalist Jim Sterling also deemed it to be the worst game on the PlayStation 4, describing it as "absolute garbage" and "severely over-priced and under-cooked," and awarding it a score of 1/10.
