LibraryWorld Inc. is a United States company that develops and sells LibraryWorld, a web 2.0 integrated library system used by over 2,000 libraries. LibraryWorld is used by public, academic, K-12 schools, medical facilities, museums, special libraries including the Greater Baltimore Medical Center, Hawaiian Historical Society, 10 High Tech Institute campuses across the country, 26 campuses of ITT Technical Institute, Honda of America, Kellogg School of Management, L’Oreal USA, Purdue University,and the San Diego Zoological Society.

The company is headquartered in San Jose, CA, and was founded by Norman Kline in 1985.

History

  • 1985: founded as CASPR, a software business by founder Norm Kline who had experience as an MIS Manager at Lockheed Martin Missiles and Space and former Worldwide Product Marketing Manager at Apple Computer.
  • 1997: CASPR purchased library automation products from McGraw-Hill School Systems, including the Columbia Library System.
  • 2002: CASPR announced its first web based online service, LibraryCom.
  • 2008: CASPR officially changed its name to LibraryWorld, Inc. With the launch of LibraryWorld.com online service, it completed the transformation from a software company to a Web service company.

Products & Services

LibraryWorld A web-based service Integrated Library System that performs library automation and collection management tasks. It is distributed via software as a service on LibraryWorld Inc’s cloud computing platform. Users access the service through the URL LibraryWorld.com and data is stored in a tier 1 Internet service center in secure SQL databases. The ILS includes catalog, circulation, patron, inventory, and serials modules. Librarians and patrons manage or search through the information through the Internet. Recently, LibraryWorld released a mobile access service, which allows patrons and librarians to search through the library from mobile devices such as the iPhone or Blackberry.

LibraryWorld Software LibraryWorld legacy software consists of LibraryWorld Bronze, LibraryWorld Silver, and LibraryWorld Gold. LibraryWorld Bronze provides cataloguing, LibraryWorld Silver provides cataloguing and circulation, LibraryWorld Gold provides catalog, circulation, and serials control and acquisition. The programs are offered in multi-user mode with Macintosh and Windows versions. There is a companion program for publishing the catalog on the Web using the library’s web server.

Bar Code Readers and Supplies. LibraryWorld offers bar code readers and supplies to libraries.
