Levon Biss
Levon Biss (born 1975) is a British documentary photographer and photojournalist. In the 1990s he studied photography at the Kent Institute of Art & Design and then progressed to the Universitad Del Pais Basco in Bilbao, where he continued a degree in Communication Media.
In 1998, Biss returned to London and began taking on commercial commissions, but continued to dedicate much of his time to his numerous personal projects ranging from circus portraits to a documentary series on the UK punk scene.
In 2006, Biss completed his biggest project to date entitled 'One Love'. The project was a photographic study of the global football community and took 18 months to produce and a year to shoot. 'One Love' focused upon football culture worldwide and ranges from children playing in the mountains of Peru to professionals plying their trade at the pinnacle of the game. Biss says, "For me the vendor selling hot dogs outside a stadium is just as much part of football culture as the players on the pitch, and it was from this viewpoint that I began the project."
The photography from 'One Love' received worldwide acclaim and produced a best selling book that included imagery from 26 countries over 6 continents. The accompanying exhibition toured the globe throughout 2006 was viewed by an estimated 1.2 million people.
Biss continues to live and work in London and is represented by the Bonakdar Cleary agency.
