Leviathan (thrash band)

Leviathan (1986 - ?) were a thrash/early-death metal band from Buffalo, NY. Leviathan made a solid name for themselves around the Buffalo area, and would later become famous for featuring Chris Barnes as vocalist at one point, who would later go on to form the hugely successful death metal band Cannibal Corpse.

Whilst not much is known AbOUT the history of the band, Leviathan have attracted interest due to Chris Barnes being a one-time member.

History

Leviathan formed in 1986, featuring Jeff Juszkiewicz and Mike Green on guitars, Greg St. John on bass and Angelo Lococo on drums. The previous vocalist, or whether they had a previous vocalist, before Chris Barnes is uncertain, but it is known that Barnes left fellow Buffalo band Tirant Sin to join Leviathan around 1986 - 1987. With Barnes, the band recorded one demo in 1987, entitled "Legions of the Undead." Barnes proceeded to leave Leviathan and rejoin Tirant Sin in 1988. What happened to Leviathan thereafter is uncertain, but it is definite that they split up. When about they split up is unknown, though on the Cannibal Corpse DVD Centuries of Torment: The First 20 Years, drummer Paul claims that Leviathan were "only short-lived."
