Laura (WARP character)

Laura is a heroine used by Japanese game developer WarP in all of their games. Used by the company as a sort of a "digital actress", her given name is always the same, but her last name changes with every appearance. As of 2001 (after the releases of D2) Laura was officially retired by Kenji Eno sortly after the breakup of video game company WARP.

Personality

Best known as WARP's MUTE mascot, Laura never speaks until the final chapter in the D series. Fans of the survival horror game series think that her speaking in the final part of D2 was a sort of surprise to end Laura's saga. Since she doesn't speak her expression usually convey her mood with the occasional gasp. Throughout her escapades she retains the same characteristics and is noted as being very quiet, nurturing, reserved, brave and stubborn. Laura is joined by her friends Kimberly, Parker and David in both Enemy Zero and D2 with her closets friend being Kimberly and her love affair with David. She retains a compact which gives hints of the future and is a precious keep sake throughout the series that was given to her by her mother. Much as Sigourney Weaver broke the mold of strong leading male characters, Laura was one of the first strong female characters in a video game, before the likes of Lara Croft or Jill Valentine.

Roles

Laura has appeared in all three of WARP's adventure games, and was to star in one cancelled project.

  • D as Laura Harris
  • Enemy Zero as Laura Lewis
  • D2 as Laura Parton

D2: Aborted Project

Before the release of D2 for the Dreamcast, there was a game of the same name being made for the ill-fated Panasonic M2 console. Not much is known but the story was supposedly complete:

On her way to visit family, Laura is in the 3rd trimester of her pregnancy and watches as her plane heads towards stormy sky. As passengers grow uneasy, the plane begins to violently shake and Laura is confronted by a demonic presence that removes the baby from her womb, and takes it away. In a horrific twist, Laura’s plane begins a spiraled descent to the earth. As she awakens she is in a medieval castle. How did she get there? Where is her child? Who is responsible? This castle must hold the secrets of what happened to her child and the mystery behind the bloodline.
