Lake Erie Regiment Drum and Bugle Corps

Lake Erie Regiment Drum and Bugle Corps is an inactive/defunct Open Class (competed as a Division III unit) competitive junior drum and bugle corps that formerly performed in Drum Corps International (DCI) competitions. Although the drum corps has not been in competition since 2005, the organization, based in Erie, Pennsylvania, remains active, sponsoring an Independent A class winter guard that competes in Winter Guard International (WGI) and the affiliated Three Rivers Winter Ensemble Association (TRWEA). The annual Lake Erie Fanfare DCI competition that premiered in 1983, ten years before the corps entered competition, is still held each summer.

History

Lake Erie Fanfare was founded in Erie, Pennsylvania in 1982 with two express purposes; hosting a local DCI drum and bugle competition and sponsoring a local junior drum corps. The 1st Annual Lake Erie Fanfare, a Drum Corps East show featuring five corps was held on July 10, 1983 and was won by the Garfield Cadets. The founding of a drum corps took longer.

In 1993, the Excaliber senior corps from Erie, which had been largely inactive for several years, folded and donated some drums and bugles and the corps' truck to Lake Erie Fanfare in order to help start the long-planned junior corps. The Lake Erie Regiment made its debut in the summer of 1993, marching in several parades and performing a number of stand-still exhibitions, including one at the 11th Annual Lake Erie Fanfare, a DCI show won by the Blue Devils. The following season, the corps entered competition in DCI and Drum Corps East (later known as DCI Atlantic). In 1999, the corps won the Division III titles at both the DCI Atlantic Championships and the Canadian Nationals Championship and advanced to the DCI Division III Finals. Although not as successful in 2000, Lake Erie Regiment repeated as Canadian Nationals champion. In 2001, the corps switched from DCI Atlantic to Drum Corps Midwest. The corps skipped DCI Championships in 2003–04, but returned to DCI Division III Finals in 2005. Although Lake Erie Regiment announced its program for 2006, it did not field that year and has not done so since.

Sponsorship

Lake Erie Regiment is sponsored by Lake Erie Fanfare, Inc., a registered non-profit 501(c)(3) musical organization. As such, it has a Board of Directors, director, and staff assigned to carry out the organization's mission.
