Lakdasa Dissanayake
Commodore Lakdasa Dissanayake, FRCS, SLVNF was a Sri Lanka surgeon. He was a leading cancer surgeon and a surgeon commodore of the Sri Lanka Navy.
His father was S. A. Dissanayake, former Inspector-General of Police, Ceylon. Educated at the prestiges Royal College Colombo where he playing rugby union at the Bradby Shield Encounter, he entered University of Ceylon to study medicine. Graduating with the MBBS he later gained a MSc and specialized as a Surgeon. Passing his MRCS, Dissanayake went on to gain Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons of both England and Edinburgh.
Dr Dissanayake, joined the Ceylon Medical Service as a medical officer and later joined the Royal Ceylon Volunteer Naval Force as a Surgeon Lieutenant in the Medical Branch. He drowned in Bentota attempting to rescue a friend’s son who was being carried away by a current.
