The company L. Kellenberger & Co. AG is an internationally operating Swiss manufacturer of high precision grinding machines with headquarters in St. Gallen.
Field of activity
Kellenberger has specalized in the development and production of numerically controlled high-precision grinding machines and systems for the application in the field of medium and high technology.
The company manufactures universal and cylindrical grinding machines for external and internal cylindrical grinding of small and medium-sized parts. These machines are used in the high-precision manufacturing of proto-types as well as for small-, medium- and large-series manufacture in the sectors mechanical engineering, tool and mould making, automotive and electrical industries, hydraulics, Aerospace, precision and tool-making industry.
History
1917 Leonard Kellenberger founded a mechanical workshop for the manufacturing of grinding machines in his hometown St. Gallen. 1918 L. Kellenberger & Compagnie launched the first self-developed universal grinding machine, 1920 the first surface grinding machine and a special-purpose grinding machine for the overhaul of car engines, 1922 the first crank shaft grinding machine.
In 1960 Kellenberger specialized in universal cylindrical grindingmachines. Today, Kellenberger is the leading company in the Hardinge Grinding Group, which incorporates the companies Voumard, Hauser, Tschudin, Usach and the British grinding machine tool manufacturer Jones & Shipman.
The Hardinge Group, based in Elmira,USA, is a machine tool manufacturer with locations in North America, Europe and Asia. L. Kellenberger & Co. AG and HTT Hauser tript Tschudin AG, have now merged.
