Kyoshi Shihan Tom Slaven
Thomas Thompson Black Slaven (1940 – 1993) was born in Haddington, Scotland, only son to Patrick Slaven and Mary Slaven, known as Shihan Kyoshi Tom Slaven.
Slaven began his martial arts studies in Scotland 1956 with amateur wrestling, representing Scotland against England, Ireland, Wales and India.
He moved to Australia in 1961 to expand his intense additional studies in martial arts such as: Nippon Kempo, Kyokushin Karate, Tae Kwon Do, Judo, Thai Boxing and Ying-Ye Kung Fu to name a few.
While in Australia he became quickly acquainted with Gillian Merryman; later they married in the early 70s; they had 3 kids together, Patrick Slaven, Mary-Anne Slaven and Heather Slaven, shortly after the birth of their last child, Tom's wife passed away.
Soldiering on through single parenting and his strong determination to make better in his life he continue his journey in martial arts; he quickly became an iconic Australian Mixed Martial Arts expert, philosopher, teacher, spiritual healer and mentor.
Guinness Book Of Record 1975
Tom Slaven entered into the history books in 1975 at North Rocks, NSW, Australia, he broke 4,368 concrete blocks in one hour.
His many demonstrations awarded much needed fund raising for children charities across Australia.
Current World Record holder
Tom Slaven achieved worldwide fame in the martial arts industry from breaking world records in Tameshawari (break), 1984, Canberra, NSW, Australia, 1 Tone Ice Break with a single elbow strike, still yet to be defeated.

Founding martial arts "Zen Chi Ryu
In the late 70s at Kingswood, NSW, Australia, Tom founded an original Australian martial arts centre called Zen Chi Ryu.
Preserving his intense training experience and traditions from many styles of martial arts, he incorporated his own techniques that suited best for constant change.
At first glance Zen Chi Ryu can be viewed as an exclusive form of self defense, while at a deeper level it's practitioners strive towards a level of enlightenment that comes through the fusion of mind and body into an ego-less fighting spirit.

Shihan Kyoshi Tom Slavens "Zen Chi Ryu" Oath
Tom created a profound spiritual oath that is still today passed on to many people around the world, below is the exact oath that Tom would recite, Sitting down with eyes closed, each line was repeated back to him by his students in unison, ending by bowing to each other in respect.
Today this tradition is still thriving strong at the opening and closing of every training session in dojos across the land.

Movie documentary
Tom Slaven founded another martial arts centre called “Kempo Karate”.
Tom and his black belt students starred in a movie Documentary in Australia called “Stunt Rock”, a show about extraordinary humans around Australia that do outrages dare devil stunts for movies.
