Kunwar Viyogi Memorial Trust

Kunwar Viyogi Memorial Trust or KVMT is a not-for-profit Indian social welfare organization.The organization is based Noida, Uttar Pradesh, India. The organization was founded in 2016 for promoting Dogri language. The organization was named after Randhir Singh, popularly known as `Kunwar Viyogi’.

History

Kunwar Viyogi Memorial Trust has been instituted in the memory of renowned Dogri litterateur editor, columnist and Sahitya Akademi Awardee Late Group Captain Randhir Singh, popularly known as `Kunwar Viyogi’ in literary circles.

Launched on September 4, 2016, on the birth anniversary of Kunwar Viyogi, the Trust is committed towards promoting and preserving Dogri language and literature through the medium of art, culture, education, innovation and much more. The aim is to empower the youth and provide them with a defined platform so as to aid them in pursuing their dreams and ambitions while entrusting them with the responsibility of giving back to the society.

Activities and Services

In association with Department of Dogri, University of Jammu, the Trust has instituted three scholarships- Kunwar Viyogi Merit Scholarship- to be awarded to male topper in MA Dogri; Prem Jamwal Kunwar Viyogi Merit scholarship, to be awarded to female topper in MA Dogri and Kunwar Viyogi Research Scholarship- to be awarded to students who undertake research work on the Dogri writers/poets etc., especially Kunwar Viyogiji. The Trust has also instituted Prem Jamwal KV Trust Innovation Award to recognise and celebrate exceptional talent/innovative idea that aims to inspire and expand the artistic and cultural horizons.

In association with Dogri Sanstha, Jammu, the Trust has instituted the Kunwar Viyogi Sahitya Puraskar for the first book or the best book in Dogri by a young Indian author; first manuscript/published in Dogri or translation of Dogri in any Indian Language recognised by the Dogri Sanstha, Jammu.

In 2016, On Air Force Day, Air Chief Marshal Arup Raha released the Hindi translation of ‘Ghar’ at an event in New Delhi. ‘Kunwar Viyogi’ received Sahitya Akademi Award in 1980 at the age of 40 for his book of long Dogri Poem titled ‘Ghar’. He used ‘Ghar’ (Home) as a peg and stringed together 238 four lines verses embracing a wide variety of subjects and ideas and feelings into a long poem. It was quite a unique composition that managed to weave all the nuances of our worldly existence and its context and axis being the Home (Ghar). It presented something new to literature not only in Dogri but in Indian literary horizon, a fresh deep thought was introduced and in such lyrical precision and balance. 'Ghar' is used as a symbol of the centre of life, our hopes and fears, anxieties, achievements and failures, dreams and also a symphony of love.
