Kris Kidd
Kris Kidd (born August 2, 1993) is an American writer and model. He is best known for his darkly comedic and self-involved work. Often lauded for his openness and brutal honesty AbOUT his relationship with the modern world, he has been deemed as both a "social media wonderboy," and a "Wi-Fi obsessed wild child [âĶ] with a heightened sense of self-awareness." by LA Canvas His work focuses on themes of youth, substance abuse, and self-destruction.
Personal life
Kris Kidd was born on August 2, 1993 in Los Angeles, California and raised in Norwalk, California. Kidd has described his upbringing as "painfully adequate." He attended Huntington Beach High School. In July 2009, his father committed [...] in the back yard of their family home, an event which has greatly shaped both Kidd and his work. Kidd is an admitted bulimic, and his struggle with his disorder has become a running theme throughout his work.
Career
Writing
In January 2011, at the age of seventeen, Kris released a collection of photos and unedited prose ripped directly from his blog, entitled "Loose Tooth//Lost Youth," which he self-published on Blurb.com. The collection focused mainly on his struggle with bulimia and his relationship with his father, and has since been dismissed by Kidd as being "melodramatic and gramatically incorrect."
In January 2014, Kris collaborated with Los Angeles-based poetry collective, The Altar Collective, and released a small collection of essays and narratives entitled "I Can't Feel My Face." This collection differs from the previous both in tone and technique, revealing a more comedic side of the author while still addressing themes of substance abuse, self-destruction, and familial loss. The book, released on January 9, 2014 has received mostly positive reviews, and in February 2014 was picked up by Bookmarc by Marc Jacobs.
On the topic of his work, Kidd has stated that he has no desire to write anything "classic," choosing instead to write "things people can connect with here and now."
Modeling
Kris Kidd began working as a freelance model in 2009 after being sought out by photographers via his various social networking sites. He was later signed to Industry Model Group. In addition to working on many national fashion and editorial campaigns, Kidd was most notably featured in two back-to-back global campaigns for Converse All Star during 2011 and 2012.
In 2014, Kidd was asked to play the role of Chris in the Focus Creeps adaptation of "Oliver Twink," from author Dennis Cooper's Ugly Man. The short film was later released as a part of DAZED Digital's "DAZED Visionaries" project.
Miscellaneous
In October 2013, Kidd released an essay on the website Archive 405 entitled "Fruit Roll-Ups," chronicling a [...]-fueled night out with alleged gang-members and mentioning his appearance as a child in a Fruit Roll-Ups commercial. In November 2013, a YouTube video of a Fruit Roll-Up commercial was added to the blogpost. While there has been no confirmation, it is believed that it is in fact the commercial mentioned in the essay.
