Kreuz Chemnitz

The Kreuz Chemnitz (German: Autobahnkreuz Chemnitz) is a cloverleaf interchange, with a direct link east-south vice-versa, in the Metropolitan region Central Germany in the German state Saxony.

The roads crossing in the interchange are the A4 Dutch border northwest of Aachen-Cologne-Eisenach-Dresden-Polisch border east of Görlitz and the A72 Dreieck Bayerisches Vogtland-Hof-Leipzig.

Geography

The interchange lays in the citylimits of Chemnitz. nearby city districts are: Chemnitz-Röhrsdorf, Chemnitz-Rabenstein and Chemnitz-Rottluff. A nearby village district is Kändler of the village Limbach-Oberfrohna which lays northwest of the interchange. which it self lays approximately 5 km northwest of the city centre of Chemnitz.

History

The interchange was originally in 1939 built as a Trumpet interchange. In 1952 and 1953 it sas used as a racetrack. In 1962, in order to lengthen the A72 towards Leipzig, they built a new interchange west of the existing one. End 2001 it was opened to traffic. On November 14. 2006 the A72 lanes towards Leipzig were opened to traffic. And Dreieck Chemnitz became Kreuz Chemnitz. The old names for the interchange were: Zwickauer Abzweig, Abzweig Plauen and Abzweig Karl-Marx-Stadt. After the reunion it became part of the general German system as Dreieck.

Road layout

Near the interchange the A 4 has a 2x3 layout. The A72 has a 2x2 layout. The connections Hof-Dresden and Dresden-Hof are having s 2x2 configuration. All other connections have got 1 lane.
