Kowdoor nayarbettu
The house of Kowdoor Nayarbettu is a medieval tulu Bunt family in the Dakshina Kannada region of Karnataka, India. Founded in the later half of the 14th century A.D., it is one of the oldest and most respected Bunt families in the South Canara region.
Location
Kowdoor Nayarbettu is located in Kowdoor village in Karkala taluk in Udupi. According to the Family Records, the areas in and around Kowdoor village were given as family property share in lieu of the marriage of a young couple from the Korankrapady and Badagabettu families who went on to become the first members of the family and the first inhabitants of the village of kowdoor in the newly formed house. Archeological remains around the site of the house and certain customs being followed by the family members give light of earlier Jain settlements in the same location. Concrete evidence is yet not confirmed AbOUT the Jain settlements.
History
From the 15th century A.D. till the declaration of independence in India the Kowdoor Nayarbetty family was the highest seat of authority of the Kowdoor village and also other small villages surrounding it which came up to an total area of roughly about 1000 acres.
