Koojarra

Koojarra was a passenger ship operated by Stateships in Western Australia. It was the first fully air-conditioned ship built in Australia

History

Koojarra was built by the State Dockyard, Newcastle for Stateships, Western Australia as an improved version of the Kabbarli arriving in Fremantle in October 1956. It primarily operated services from Fremantle to ports on the North West Coast. In 1964 it operated Stateships's first service to circumnavigate Australia. It was withdrawn in October 1971.

A Plan several by several prominent Perth businessmen to purchase it for use as a floating hotel and convention centre anchored off Rottnest Island, didn’t eventuate and in August 1973 it was sold to Robin Dredging and towed to Singapore to be used as an accommodation vessel for oil drilling teams in Malaysia. This also did not eventuate with the ship anchored at Singapore Roads until it was scrapped in February 1978 at Gadani Beach, Pakistan.
