Kimoodo
Kimoodo is a modern Korean healing art, designed to bring together ancient Asian martial arts movements integrated with Oriental healing arts. Kimoodo was founded and documented in 1992 by Sr. Grandmaster Joon Pyo Choi in Columbus, Ohio. The roots of Kimoodo have been used in Asia for more than 5,000 years to maintain a healthy mind and body and rejuvenate injury or illness.
The healing art
Kimoodo is a very holistic art, designed to convert toxic energies to life energies through the cultivation of heaven energy (air, oxygen), earth energy (food and water) and human energy (blood and mind). The practitioner’s mind, body, spirit and emotions are meant to work together harmoniously to overcome injuries, illnesses and hardships in life. To achieve those results Kimoodo uses 3 main techniques: Meditative breathing (called power breathing), stretching (called power stretching) and positive mind-conversion training (called power mind).
Five processes of healing
One of the basic beliefs of Kimoodo is that healing is a five stage process, which continually repeats to keep the holistic self healthy. The five stages are:
- Oxygenation - ensuring the body has god, healthy oxygen through deep meditative breathing designed to remove stale, unhealthy air from the lungs.
- Detoxification - cleansing the body of harmful toxins by circulating clean oxygen and water through the blood stream and purging toxins through sweating
- Deconditioning - causing the body and self to unlearn unhealthy habits and practices
- Reconditioning - training the mind, body, and spirit in healthy practices including proper posture, healthy eating, and positive self image
- Rejuvination - holistic healing
Target audience
Kimoodo is a viable rehabilitation system for all ages and professions regardless of the extent of one’s current condition, and it is based on the dynamics of martial-arts principles.
The founder
Kimoodo was founded by Sr. Grandmaster Joon P. Choi (Grandmaster of Taekwondo, 9. Dan) who was born 1946. In his childhood he had to flee from North Korea to a refugee camp where his uncle taught him the martial art Taekwondo. Since then he was totally into martial arts. Now he has gotten the 9th Dan, the highest grading. He has developed his own style of Taekwondo, opened several Taekwondo schools in the United States and finally founded Kimoodo. Currently he is travelling all over the world teaching Kimoodo in several martial arts schools.
