Kieren Keane

Kieren Keane (born October 20, 1981 in London) is an English footballer who last played for Charlotte Eagles in the USL Second Division.

Playing career

Keane, whose father is American, played alongside future United States men's national soccer team defender Jay DeMerit for Chicago Fire Premier in the USL Premier Development League, and then accompanied the future star to Europe. They both played for Southall, where Keane scored 26 goals in 34 games and was named player of the season. Keane and DeMerit then played one game for Northwood, after which DeMerit was successfully signed by Watford; Keane went on to have spells with Weymouth, Torquay United, Dundee and RCD Mallorca B.

Keane suffered a broken tibia in 2008, and returned to the United States to regain his fitness by playing soccer for Sockers FC and the Bridges to the Pros Academy. He signed with the Charlotte Eagles of the USL Second Division in 2010, making his debut for the Eagles on April 24, 2010 in a game against the Richmond Kickers.

Keane was not listed on the 2011 roster released by Charlotte on April 7, 2011.

Coaching career

Keane holds England Football Association Coaching Certificates for levels 1, 2, and 3, and was a youth soccer coach for the Chicago Sockers, Chicago Magic and Bridges To The Pros Academy. During his recuperation from his broken leg he accepted assistant coaching positions with Dave Richardson at Sockers FC and Bret Hall at the Bridges to the Pros Academy, and was line to become the Chicago Sockers and Magic Alliance U23 head coach, but opted to sign with the Charlotte Eagles of the USL Second Division instead.

He was hired as Assistant Coach and Director of Technical Training and Player Development by Bryan College in March 2010.
