Jovan Milic

Jovan Milić (Serbian Cyrillic: Јован Милић) (born May 21, 1996) is a Serbian human rights activists and humanitarian. Jovan's mission is sponsored and supported by the Red Cross. Jovan is the author of 10+ books dedicated to the promotion of human rights and spiriutal dimensions of life.

Early life

Milic was born in the city of Nis in Serbia. His family was poor, and living in extreme poverty motivated him to become a humanitarian. Jovan is the son of Dragan and Zaklina Milic, and he has two siblings: an older sister and a younger brother. Education was a big part of the Milic family, and at a young age, Jovan developed a thirst for knowledge and human rights.

Career

In 2011, Jovan launched his student company to produce and distribute boomerangs through the organization Junior Achievement. He and almost fifty friends from his school went to this unknown market and caused a storm among the media. At the age of 17, Jovan was named the most influential figure in the Serbian media, according to "E News", along with more famous names of the Serbian public scene. As a student in the second year of secondary school, Jovan created a website which helped students learn. Immediately following, he developed sites for Internet security and a site for language. Jovan is also the creator of the international platform and organization “Find Raoul”, dedicated to Raoul Wallenberg. Through this website, he has helped many poor young students and families from Serbia, Bosnia, Albania, Croatia, Norway. Part of this organization is the promotion of basic human rights. When he launched this site, he wasn't considered wealthy, and thus became the voice for the poor around the world.

Jovan authored the children's book "If I Have Wings" and the novel "Niska Kaldrma". For five years, he organized the festival “BoomFest” together with the Embassy of Australia in Serbia. For two terms, he was a cultural ambassador of the City of Nis, and one of the Ambassadors of entrepreneurship. During times that have been characterized and continue to be plagued by xenophobia, he has uncompromisingly stood up for human equality. In January 2014, Jovan received an invitation to participate in the Kopaonik Business Forum. In January of the same year, the Assembly of the City of Nis awarded him the highest recognition of the City of Nis, prize "11. January".

He is the author of the blog "Let's All Just Be People," where more than 10 books are made available free to the public. After almost 18 years of work, Jovan won Hello Magazine's Person of the year Award and another award for human rights from GO Red Cross. Jovan organized many humanitarian actions at the state level, but also at the global level. He has written several books on the subject of religion, the spiritual dimension of life, and human rights. He is the creator of various conferences aimed at helping young people and poor families from all over Europe. He has also organized a number of human rights events fighting for peace between Serbs and Albanians. His story of poverty has motivated many young people in Europe, because when he was poor, he had told other young people AbOUT the importance of education and human rights.

Milic is the creator of the film, "Young Scientists on the Wings of Poverty." In the film, Milic visits 45 poor students and young talents, speaking with them and discussing the basic human rights of poor people in Serbia.

Leanin.Org held a live chat on Facebook with Sheryl Sandberg and Milic about the importance of human rights and humanitarian work for young people around the world. He was the youngest participant in the international conference "IEESTEC." He says that the brotherhood between people always exists and that we have only to find it and nurture it. Through the conference, "I Have a Dream" was organized, which secures free transportation cards for poor students. Milic’s story inspired a TV producer to create the film “Jovan Milic... Good man” for N1 television, CNN Balcan.

Jovan is an active proponent of human rights as a fundamental social and economic right of poor students and families. He is a philanthropist who has helped thousands of poor people through the international organization “Find Raoul”. He is nominated for the Olof Palme Prize and Templeton prize.
