Joseph S. Harrington

Joseph S. Harrington is an American rock music critic and author of the book Sonic Cool: The Life And Death Of Rock And Roll.

Joe Harrington was born in Portland, Maine to a dirt poor laborer father and a mother who all she did was bake bread. At an early age he fell in love with Lester Bangs and a rejected beta version of Elvis Costello. Unfortunately for him, the Jehovah's Witnesses and Elvis have been following him since. He listened to every punk band known to man as a teenager, except forThe [...] and The Dead Boys, who, he now admits in CASUAL conversation, are the two best. After a brief stint at a Maine State College, he started a meandering and meaningful Punk Rock band called the Monuments (named after Monument Square in Portland1). After the collapse of that endeavor, Joe migrated to East Boston where, as usual, he fell into a decidedly uncool crowd. He here began his work on his major opus - Sonic Cool: The Life and Death of Rock and Roll. While Joe deems he is person of somewhat major import, he has yet to meet a significant Rock Star - e.g.,Tony Iommii. Joe has now retired to his home state of Maine where he publishes the 'zine Kapital Ink and is working on Vol. 14 of his memoirs.
