José A. Cabrera

José A. Cabrera Costas (born September 30, 1984) is a Puerto Rican political activist who served as President of the Puerto Rico Statehood Students Association, Inc. (PRSSA) from 2007 to 2009.

After ten years of dormancy, Cabrera along with William-José Vélez reactivated the PRSSA, a non-profit corporation that advocates U.S. statehood for the unincorporated territory of Puerto Rico, after ten years of dormancy. Recruiting members nationwide and constituting a new board of directors, Cabrera and the PRSSA waged an electoral inscription campaign in Puerto Rico focused on driving pro-statehood students to the polls during the 2008 Puerto Rican general elections cycle.

Cabrera also advocated for statehood within universities both in the continental United States and Puerto Rico, organizing roundtables and forums. He has frequently spoken on behalf of statehood to the press.

As a student, Cabrera interned in the office of then-Congressman Luis Fortuño and then-Puerto Rico Senate President Kenneth McClintock. Cabrera also represented Puerto Rico as a page during the 2008 Republican National Convention in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
