Jon Balcourt

Jon Balcourt (born 1985) is an American-born composer, orchestrator, pianist, vocal coach, and conductor.

Biography

Balcourt, a Syracuse native, has completed a Bachelor's degree in Music Education at the Setnor School of Music at Syracuse University. He is currently attending New York University's Graduate MusicAL Theatre Writing Program as a composer. His first musical, Untitled the musical debuted in Syracuse, NY in March 2006. During the summer of 2007, he co-wrote the lyrics and wrote the music to the off-Broadway musical Idol: The Musical that played at the 45th Street Theatre throughout July and August. He recently wrote music and lyrics to a song-cycle that premiered at Jazz Central, titled: Twist of Love. The music for this has now be released both in sheet music form as well as on a newly released CD as of May 2008 (available on his website). A new song titled "I Will" (co-written with Jen Namoff) can be heard on an upcoming debut album of power-belter Kate Pazakis (CD titled Kate Pazakis: Unzipped). The CD will be available on iTunes during Mid-Winter 2009.. Another recent project was Underwear: a space musical (orchestrations/keyboards), with music, lyrics and book by Heidi Ervin and Brandon Gwinn, which was part of the 2008 NYC Fringe Festival. He is currently working on a musical adaptation of Michael Ende's classic fantasy novel The Neverending Story with a workshops planned during Fall of 2009 in New York City. [RT3]
