John R Burr

John R Burr is an american piano player originary from California. His unique way to create an instrumental hybrid sound combining jazz and his love for folk music got him a huge success.

Biography

Born in a family with four siblings all playing piano, he started as a child prodigy drummer before changing for piano, after hearing Vince Guaraldi's playing in the peanut animated TV show at the age of ten.

Following a solo career, John R Burr has also been touring with big names, such as Maria Muldaur, The Alison Brown Quartet, Paul McCandless, Michael Manring, Joe Craven and Kathy Kallick and recognition including a feature spot on Windham Hill's Piano Sampler II. Asked AbOUT his influences,John R Burr answered: "I play a sort of jazz piano version of the vocal music that I love to listen to. That's what influences me. I love to play and study jazz but I listen to vocal, folk/singer/songwriter music. I'm always searching for that melodic song-like quality when I improvise.".

His first album solo "Piedmont Avenue" (1999) got him to be featured by Jazz Time Magazine, Philadelphia Weekly, Midwest Book Review, ICON, Music Row and FMQB.
