John Keegan (life coach)

John Keegan is an American Born writer, motivational speaker, and life coach. His expertise is in the area of social dynamics, attraction, flirting and human connection. Based in New York, he lectures and holds workshops internationally.

Early Life and Education

Keegan was born in Morton, Pennsylvania. He was educated at Lafayette College and graduated with a B.A. in Psychology. Thereafter, he moved to New York City to study acting with teachers Sydney Kay, Thomas G. Waites, and Vincent D'Onofrio.

Career

Keegan began his career in New York as an actor, making appearances in film, television, and theater. After a breakup with a girlfriend, he began teaching himself to meet and connect with women in everyday situations. In an interview with The New York Times in October of 2009, Keegan noted that he began to see every interaction as a scene in a play. He challenged himself with the goal of moving past a socially-specific or dating-specific fear point five times daily. Eventually, he attained the social freedom he sought. He used meeting women as a way of transcending fears and ego. As he told The New York Times, the continual act of "burning up my ego in the face of rejection" elevated his nuanced understanding of self-empowerment.

Less than two years after Keegan began devoting himself to teaching, The New York Times featured him in an episode called The Ladies Man from its One in 8 Million series.

Media

Keegan is a regular contributor to Fox and Friends, Marie Claire, Men’s Health Magazine, and The Lisa Oz Show. He has also been featured in a variety of other publications and media, including Entrepreneur Magazine, The Huffington Post, Yahoo, The New York Times, USA Today, Spike TV, and Morgan Spurlock’s television series Mansome.

Philosophy

At its core, Keegan’s philosophy involves a holistic approach that tunes people into their higher instincts, allowing them to align their intentions with their behavior and thereby reach an uppermost state of self-empowerment. Through experiential techniques, he guides his clients to espouse and ultimately internalize a Zen-like philosophy he calls The Social Practice, wherein one becomes completely authentic and present when communicating with others. On flirting and attraction, Keegan has said: “This is all about having fun and being playful and leaving our mind and our mental patterns and being present. That's when attraction is built, because we both feel good, like children”. Keegan has described his philosophy as a socially-focused way of practicing the belief system espoused in Eckhart Tolle’s The Power of Now.
