John Hoppenthaler

John Hoppenthaler is a poet, prose writer, and editor. He is currently an Assistant Professor of English/Creative Writing at East Carolina University, where he is on the English Department Library Committee. His primary areas of research and teaching include creative writing, contemporary and modern poetry, and American Literatures. He also worked as the English Department Coordinator and Instructor of English at West Virginia University at Parkersburg, and served as a Personal Assistant to Novel and Pulitzer Prize winning author, Toni Morrison for 9 years. In 2008 Hoppenthaler received the Residency Fellowship at Weymouth Center for the Arts and Humanities. His poems, prose, and InterViews have been published in a variety of journals including Cortland Review, Poezia, The Dirty Napkin, The Florida Review, and Tar River Poetry. He currently lives in Washington, NC.

Education

Hoppenthaler received his A.A. In Humanities and Creative Writing from Rockland Community College, his B.S. In English from State University of New York at Brockport, and his M.F.A. From Virginia Commonwealth University.
