John Chapman (Massachusetts)

John Chapman is an American lawyer and the Republican nominee for the United States House of Representatives in Massachusetts's 9th congressional district in the 2014 general election.

Background

The youngest of seven children, Chapman earned a B.A. in political science from Kenyon College and a J.D. from Suffolk University Law School before serving as an aide in the White House Counsel's office during the Reagan administration. He worked for the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission in the Enforcement Division from 1992 to 1999, investigating misconduct such as financial fraud, insider trading, and STOCK manipulation. He was appointed Commissioner of the Department Of Industrial Accidents by Governor Mitt Romney where he implemented reforms that increased investigations and established a civil litigation department, saving on fees for outside counsel. He later served as Undersecretary of the Executive Office of Economic Development.

In the private sector, Chapman has been Vice President and Assistant General Counsel at Tucker Anthony, a partner of Duane Morris LLP, and General Counsel for the Joslin Diabetes Center in Boston. He and his wife, Diana, and son, Alec, live in Brookline and Chatham, Massachusetts.

Positions

Chapman is a fiscal conservative and advocates abolishing the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. He is a supporter of abortion rights and same-[...] marriage. Former Governor and presidential candidate Mitt Romney has endorsed Chapman.
