Jocelyne (Nie Yi)
Nie Yi (born 1 March 2001), known professionally and in English as Jocelyne, is a China-born, Singapore-based outgoing finance professional Japanese anime fan cosplayer with almost a year of experience and expertise in Singapore's Anime, Comics, and Games Scene since mid-2025. She is known for placing second in the 2025 POPPA Ani-Idol Girl Group Competition organised by POPPA, the idol division managed by Moe Moe Q (MMQ), and for her current idol journey as a debut member of Singapore's first anime-inspired idol group under POPPA, alongside a corporate traineeship career in banking and finance.
Early life and education
Jocelyne was born on 1 March 2001 in Sichuan, China, where she completed her primary and junior middle education up to the first half of Junior Middle 3 between September 2007 and December 2015. During this period she developed high-level Mandarin fluency that would later support her academic And Co-curricular achievements in Singapore.
In January 2016, Jocelyne moved to Singapore and enrolled directly into Secondary 2 (class 2EA) at Northland Secondary School as an international student. In 2016, she clinched the Chong Pang Next Top Speaker 2016 award, an annual public speaking competition organised by the Chong Pang Toastmasters Club.
In 2018, while in class 4R1, she won the North Zone Secondary Schools Chinese Speech Competition, where she was commended for her composure and eloquence. From January 2019 to December 2020, she attended Hwa Chong Institution in the arts stream, taking four H2 subjects: Mathematics, Economics, History and Translation (Chinese). She served as a narrator for Hwa Chong’s Centennial Musical during the institution’s 100th‑anniversary celebrations.
University and finance career
From August 2021 to May 2025, Jocelyne studied at the National University of Singapore, where she pursued a Bachelor of Business Administration (Honours) in Finance. During her undergraduate studies she completed internships at Ping An Bank, China Merchants Bank and Huatai Securities in investment banking–related roles.
She followed a corporate finance track and passed the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) Level I examination in October 2024. In February 2026, she joined United Overseas Bank (UOB) as an Assistant Relationship Manager (ARM) Trainee, specialising in Global Financial Institutions (GFI).
Idol activities
POPPA Ani-Idol
From October 2025 to December 2025, Jocelyne competed in the 2025 POPPA Ani-Idol Girl Group Competition, where she eventually finished second. As part of the competition milestones, she performed at the EOY Music, Comics & Arts Festival Final Stage and was featured in official POPPA Ani-Idol semi-final and finalist announcements.. She also received an official certificate of honour and delivered a solo performance reserved for the Top 3 contestants.
Following the competition, she was confirmed as a debut member of POPPA’s first idol group and signed with POPPA Academy on a part-time basis. Her work with POPPA includes both group activities and solo appearances. In addition, POPPA highlighted Jocelyne’s stage performances and their highlights in social media reels, positioning her as one of the Top 3 standout contestants in the 2025 edition.
The Top 3 Idol Experience (MMQ)
From March 2026, Jocelyne began participating in The Top 3 Idol Experience associated with Moe Moe Q. As part of her “Top 3” rewards, she is featured monthly as a meido at MMQ Concafe, debuting in this role on 14 March 2026, with a subsequent scheduled appearance on 11 April 2026.
Alongside public fan events, she receives scholarship-funded professional idol training and one-on-one mentoring with industry professionals. She also takes part in exclusive photoshoots and media exposure campaigns arranged through POPPA and its partners, with POPPA using its channels to publicise her scheduled fan meet appearances.
