Joanna Perry-Folino
Joanna Perry-Folino is a playwright, screenwriter and producer. Her short film, The Silence of Bees, (about colony collapse disorder and the American family) based on the prologue to her stage play of the same title starring Jim Beaver, won the prestigious Accolade Film Award in 2008, an Aloha Accolade from the Honolulu International Film Festival,was screened in April '09 at the Southeast New England Film Festival and will be screened at the Cannes Short Film Corner in May 2009. She is a member of the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences, Women In Film, American Women in Radio and Television, The Dramatists Guild, Theatre West of Los Angeles, and The Academy for New Musical Theatre. She is also a full time film and theatre instructor at Los Medanos College in California (www.losmedanos.edu/drama/)
Joanna has produced over 15 plays in the San Francisco Bay area including The Laramie Project, Speed-the-Plow and The Vagina Monologues as well as numerous festivals of new plays. She recently produced a benefit performance of Brian Copeland's Not A Genuine Black Man and will be co producing Brian's show in Los Angeles at The Hayworth on Wilshire Boulevard in September. She has written several screenplays, including Lila Loves Louie, a romantic comedy about a young woman who tries to save an endangered lemur, and Blueberry Hill, a mystery thriller about a kidnapped child based on an actual event. Her short musical comedy Bone Appetit was produced at the Colony Theatre in Burbank, California in June 2008.
Other recent credits include Assistant Producer on Within Reach, a documentary about sustainable communities in the United States.
