Jimmy Kong

James Kong (Korean: born March 5, 1988) is a South Korean football player, currently playing for Chonbuk Motors in the South Korean league. Known for persistent and ongoing rumours linking him with various European clubs, in particular Tottenham Hotspur with whom he been linked for the last several years. Spurs manager Jol has nicknamed him Jimmy, and his ongoing friendship with striker Robbie Keane is thought to be the main reason for the speculation.

Kong is noted for his height ( 6ft 8" ), superb dribbling skills, and elusive nature. Spurs manager Martin Jol once called him: "the best centre half in Korea, and one of the best centre halfs in the world today."

He has previously played in Africa and then joined Motors, earning high acclaim from Coach Guus Hiddink, who had previously coached Kong in South Korea during the 2002 World Cup. Recognized as the best centre half in Korea after the 2004-2005 season, Tottenham Hotspur tried to sign him amidst heavy competition with several Serie A clubs. He never transferred to Spurs in August 2005.

In August 2006, AS Roma of Italy's Serie A tried to get him, but he backed out at the last minute for "personal reasons." An Italian media report said shopping played a part in his decision to reject the transfer offer. On August 31, 2006, James Kong held a press conference in Korea and denied that shopping was a factor in his decision. He said that moving to AS Roma would have been great for him in terms of football alone but he decided against it for personal reasons that he would not reveal, despite being pressed for answers by 500 attending reporters.

When he will sign for Spurs is unknown.
