Jim E. Sims is a British born bass player who is massively in demand for his creativity in the studio and energetic showmanship on stage.
Jim E., born James Sims on 26th September 1979, grew up in Solihull, West Midlands. Having experimented on piano and trumpet, Jim E.'s natural talent and passion for the bass guitar became apparent at an early age and before long Jim E. became a lively figure on the music scene in Birmingham and later Manchester. Moving to London in 2001 saw Jim E. join a number of bands including Subterfuse, The Drum and Bass Orchestra and Lopez. His virtuosity on bass guitar and dexterity at switching between bass guitar and upright bass meant he was never short of offers of work. During this period, Jim E. also worked as bass tech for his good friend and inspiration the bass virtuoso, Jon Thorne of Lamb (band).
Jim E. has appeared with, amongst others, Daniel Powter, Gareth Gates, Marli Buck, Rushmore, Hall and Oates, Aaron Short, Sophie Solomon and Ben Parker, formerly of Ben and Jason. He performs regularly on television including Top of the POPS and GMTV.
Jim E. Sims's most recent engagements are for Rushmore (signed to Mercury Records) and Marli Buck (signed to Sony/Modest)
Jim E. plays bass on Rushmore's debut album, produced by Craig Silvey (The Magic Numbers), and soon to be released on Mercury Records. He also appears in Laura Michelle Kelly's music video 'Communication' from her debut album 'The Storm Inside', released on Angel EMI.
In 2006, Jim E. Sims played at V Festival, Oxegen, T in the Park and O2 Festival in Hyde Park with Rushmore and on a sell-out 20 date UK tour, supporting Journey South, with singer-songwriter Marli Buck, whose debut album will be released by Sony later this year.
Jim E. plays on his beloved Fender Jazz and Precision basses (hailing 1977 and 1979), a Musicman stingray from 1978 an Ernie Ball Stingray 5 string, and an NS electro-acoustic upright bass.
