Jiankai Yu

Yu Jiankai, simplified Chinese 于鉴开, (born on June 17th, 1982 in Beijing, China) is the youngest contestant on the Chinese version of American popular TV show "Who wants to be a millionaire". The name of the show is called "Happy Dictionary", and 开心词典 in simplified Chinese. The TV show which airs at 8:00pm every Friday night, attracts milions of viewers throughout the country. Jiankai was luckily chosen to be one of the contestants on the show in August, 2000 at age of 18. He answered the first qualifying question correctly and therefore, was invited to the stage to begin the challenge. He was able to answer the first three questions successfully without using any of the lifelines. However, he was eliminated by the fourth question due to overconfidence. He did not use any of the lifelines throughout the game. Although he was eliminated in the early stage of the game, he still won a prize of 500 Chinese Yuan which is around US $65.00 at the current exchange rate. More importantly, he is very proud to be the youngest contestant ever competited in the game.

Jiankai is now residing in Toronto, Ontario, Canada working as a .Net Developer. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from Queen's University at Kingston, Ontario in May 2004. He plays soccer and icehockey on his spare time. Occasionally, he makes some amateur movie clips with his friends and have a few of them posted on youtube.com.

Jiankai's name, Jiankai, which means "Clear Water" in Chinese, is an ancient Chinese Poem. The moral of the poem is to have a clear conscious and a clear mind in everything you do in life.
