Jha (India)
The word "Jha" is a surname of people who originate from the Indian state of Bihar. They are Maithili Brahmins.Most of the Maithil Brahmins have JHA surname. They mostly inhibited in Darbhanga , Madubani,Saharsa,Sitamarhi,Supaul, Purnea,Katihar,Araria,Bhagalpur , Godda,Deoghar,Samistipur, Muzzafarpur,Madhepura,Champaran some parts of Nepal etc.
JHA (Maithil Brahmin) community has a very high literacy rate. Due to lack of oppurtunities within the state, many have migrated to neighbhoring states.
The famous movies Gangajal, Apharan are directed by Prakash Jha, a bollywood director.
"Jha" surname also exists among people who are Nagar Brahmins, originated from Gujarat and dispersed to other states as Rajasthan in 14-15th century. Their roots are nowhere related to Maithili Brahmins. Jha is also used by some Bhumihar Brahmins who hail from the Mithila region in Bihar.
