Jenny Jones Back in Time
Jenny Jones Back in Time is a well-known sketch from the Fox sketch comedy program MADtv which stars Mo Collins impersonating talk show host Jenny Jones. The sketch plays off the concept of showing clips from previous episodes of the show, placing Jenny Jones into various historical contexts.
Synopsis
The clip opens with Collins introducing herself with the catchphrase "Any day we're still on is a good day!" which recurs in various incarnations throughout. She then proceeds to introduce a clip from the previous week's show AbOUT a stripper whose husband wants her to quit. From here, Collins launches into her various clips going back in time:
- The Jenny Jones Show (1989): Jones is shown with long, frizzled hair and dressed completely in leather. Although anachronistically, she quotes MC Hammer's "U Can't Touch This" and mentions Rapping Granny as a guest on the show.
- The Moon Beam Jones Show (1967): Essentially uses the same set, but includes bead curtains, sitar music and 1960s era costuming. Jones states that she is going to host a love in and that she has [...] and "negroes."
- The Jennabelle Jones Show (1865): Introduced prior as the first time "negroes were on the show," The Jennabelle Jones Show is clearly reminiscent of Gone With the Wind as Jones states (in a southern accent) that "Another day at Three Oaks is another day the Yankees have not torched our land!" she then proceeds to explain that she will free her slaves and give them a fashion makeover.
- Thee Lady Jenneth Jones Show (1332): With Gregorian Chanting for theme music, Jones states that she will speak with parents who "feel their offspring are wearing armor that's too revealing."
- The Jenicus Jonicus Forum (Between 31 BCE and 476 CE): Jones revels in the fact that "a day wherein I am not fed to the lions is a day of great benefit" and states that she will speak with a "young woman whose familiars say she spends too much time at the vomitorium"
- (Indeterminate Cave Drawing) (Prehistory): Jenny Jones as a cavewoman speaks in a babbling dialect interspersed with catch phrases such as "Yeah, it sure is!" and ends with "Here's a, uh, clip!"
- The Essence of Jenny Jones (Beginning of Time): the clip ends with the essence of Jenny Jones bearing witness to the Big Bang and wishing to show a clip from before, but not being able to because this is the "beginning of time." With nothing more to do, she simply bids the audience farewell.
