Jane Quinn Davis

Born October 31, 1914, died February 3, 2009.

Jane Quinn Davis was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Franklin Quinn of Newark, New Jersey. Her father was the editor in chief of the Newark Star Ledger,the largest circulated newspaper in the U.S. state and based in Newark. She was the first young woman to graduate from Irvington High School and continue on to college. Jane attended Smith College from 1932 to 1936 and concluded her studies at Penn State University.

In 1936 she married Professor Kingsley Davis Kingsley Davis,a major twentieth century sociologist and grandnephew to confederate President Jefferson Davis. In 1950 she moved to Leonia, New Jersey. Leonia, New Jersey She resided there until her death in 2009.

Ms. Davis was the mother of Jefferson Davis, MD of Santa Fe, New Mexico and JoAnn Daily of Cambria, California. While living in Leonia, she served as Treasurer for the Northern Valley Consumer's Cooperative, with stores in Leonia and Ridgefield, for over 40 years. She was also the Treasurer of the MidAtlantic Group of Consumer Cooperatives. Jane was an ardent advocate of community involvement. She was one of the founding members of Leonia's League of Women Voters and a Board Member of the Community Chest. A lifelong supporter of the Arts, especially dance, she avidly attended and contributed donations to the Ballet at New York City's Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts and the New Jersey Performance Arts Center. Among her many charitable contributions were consistent donations to Habitat for Humanity, UNICEF and Doctors Without Borders.
