Janardan Prasad

Janardan Prasad was a renowned social worker, journalist, educationist and politician of Motihari, East Champaran. He was born in Sultanganj while he served the land of Champaran (Motihari) making that place as his workplace (karmasthal). He held various positions of reader/ head of Department Of economics, M.S. College and principal of JN Memorial college, Ghorasahan. He has been a one of the longest serving journalist whose career in journalism has spread over five decades.

Early life and education

Prasad was born in Sultanganj on 20 November 1924. He graduated from TNB college, bhagalpur and completed post graduation in economics from Patna University. He became a key editing member of Janta Press and Janta Saptahik under leadership of great author in Hindi. Rambriksh Benipuri

Career

Janardan Prasad had been reporter to various news agencies like Press Trust of India (P.T.I.), United News of India (UNI) and Aakashvani. He had been journalist and reporter to many Hindi and English daily newspapers like Aaryavart, Pradeep, Indian Nation. He has been editor and key writer to many regional newspapers and journals like Naya Din, Tirhut Dak, Panchayat, Bharatendu, Champaran Sandesh, Motihari Sandesh, JanKalyan, Arya Mihir, Dafeena etc. His contribution to the locally published journals had been Immense and has been role model for many journalists of the district.

As a social worker and political person he was associated with JayPrakash Narayan, Karpoori Thakur, George Fernandes, and Nitish Kumar. He was actively associated with JayPrakash Movement and had been part of struggle and development activities related East Champaran though his birthplace has been Sultanganj, Bhagalpur district.

Janardan Prasad as an educationist was in teaching profession from as early as 1949 when the very first and newly established college of district (MS College) came into existence. His association with government and private run colleges are well recognized. His contribution in establishing many educational institutions like SRP college, Chakia, Dr. SKS Women's College, Khemchand Tarachand college, Raxaul, RD Kedia homeopath medical college, H.S.V. cooperative college, Ramgarwah, K.T. college, Motihari are worth mentioning. He successfully contributed towards opening of more than half a dozen colleges in the district. He has been strong advocate of opening of a university at Motihari. Recently it was decided to open central university of Bihar at Motihari.

Janardan Prasad as a social worker had contributed and struggled for the upliftment of various communities. His contribution to establishing and organizing cultural events for the district has been remarkable as an orator.
