Jamie-Leigh Kent (September 27, 1989) is an Welsh Kickboxer. Jamie-Leigh trains out of Newport, Wales and was brought up as an 'Army Child' and moved around the world to such locations as Aldershot, England, Paphos, Cyprus, and Chepstow, Wales. His mother is of Irish nationality, and his father is Welsh and served in the British Army. Originally Jamie-Leigh had no intentions to be a professional fighter, until one late night altercation outside a nightclub in Cardiff, Wales changed the course of his life. He sought to learn the arts of Kick-Boxing, and learn of Self-Defence, but his progress was rapid and far greater than first thought.

Welsh Junior Kick-Boxing Open
Shortly after Jamie-Leigh's victory over Hooper, he decided that he would take part in the Welsh Junior Kick-Boxing Open, which was held in the Welsh Capital of Cardiff. Jamie-Leigh entered the tournament on the back of 4 previous victories and 1 previouw draw. His first opponent was an opponent named Richard Neal, who was 20 years old and came from the Canton area of Cardiff. The fight lasted for 40 seconds, as Neal's trainer decided the fighter could no longer fight. This all came about as Jamie-Leigh threw a right hook at Neal, who tried to avoid it, but also ended up pulling his ankle, which forced him to retire the fight.

Jamie-Leigh's second fight in the tournament was against another 18-year old, who came from Caerphilly named Michael Day. The fight was over late on in the second round, and this fight was fairly one-sided with the opponent Michael Day controlling most've the match, but he was stopped by Jamie-Leigh via a right hook which caught him on the bridge of the nose giving Jamie-Leigh his second win of the tournament.

Fellow Newport Boy, Jamie Lord, awaited Jamie-Leigh in the next round. This fight was fairly equally, but due to the amount of kick Jamie-Leigh had landed he claimed yet another victory in Cardiff to continue his great run. Markus Hope of Pentwyn, Cardiff, was the next opponent, and this fight was probably one of the better accounts of Jamie-Leigh. Maybe it was the nice 2 and a half hour break between this fight and the last? The fight was fairly contested, and Hope left his mark on Jamie-Leigh and he nearly kicked Jamie-Leigh's helmet clean off his head. Jamie-Leigh won the fight via Unanimous Decision once again, as his clinch-work and strike-rate were top rate.

Jamie-Leigh was dumped out've the competition by a far superior and experience fighter of Ryan Harris from Port Talbot. Harris had a huge following at the event, and showed just why he had a few supporters in Cardiff that night. Jamie-Leigh clinched onto Ryan Harris, but experience showed as Harris pushed Jamie-Leigh off towards the ropes and followed through with a stunning Spinning Back Kick to seal his place in the Finals.

In all, this was a great event for Jamie-Leigh, and although he went out in the Semi-Final he gained some great experience from the whole competition, and went further than first thought.
